    Description

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Accessibility and Inclusion Outreach Specialist: Accessibility and Inclusion is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing outreach programs and services that promote accessibility and inclusion within the library and the broader community. This role focuses on ensuring that library resources, programs, and services are accessible to individuals of all abilities and backgrounds, with an emphasis on outreach to underserved and marginalized communities. The Specialist will work collaboratively with library staff, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create an inclusive environment that supports access to information and resources.

    Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Outreach and Mobile Library Services, the role assists and implements activities related to providing programs and services to populations with specific needs. This position will supervise, lead, and be a subject-matter expert on programs and services that are accessible to all, with a focus on being accessible to people with disabilities. The Specialist will bring expertise, independence, and leadership to this position, with the expectation of creating training materials, programs, and documentation independently and expertly. This position will:

    • Provide expertise to staff on providing outreach services to populations with specific needs, especially people with disabilities.
    • Train and educate staff in this area.
    • Direct staff to relevant resources as needed.
    • Design and deliver outreach programs and presentations that promote library services to diverse communities, including those with disabilities, seniors, and non-native English speakers.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and agencies serving individuals with disabilities and other underserved populations.
    • Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in service and develop strategies to address them.
    • Advocate strongly for changes that would improve the experience of library users.
    • Provide expertise to contextualize and ground outreach guidelines and standards.
    • Serve on appropriate committees or groups.
    • Ensure that outreach programs and services are accessible to everyone.
    • Record and report program attendance.
    • Enter and collect data, compile reports, and surveys.

    Position Information

    • The rate of pay for this position is $40.00 per hour.
    • Varied schedule, usually Monday through Friday during business hours, but there may be occasional evenings and weekends with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
    • This position requires approximately 30% travel.
    • Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Health and Human Services, or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of or work experience in disability services practices and procedures is required. Knowledge of accessibility technology required. Must approach their work from a forward-looking perspective, tailoring effective solutions which addresses the unique and evolving needs of the Library’s diverse community of patrons. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of internet tools including social media and email. Must possess the ability to multi-task and manage tasks with competing deadlines. Planning and organization will be part of the job. Multilingualism is preferred.
