Ayuda is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing direct legal, social, and language access services, education, and outreach to low-income immigrants in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Since 1973, Ayuda has provided critical services on a wide range of issues, in the process acquiring nationally recognized expertise in several fields including immigration law, language access, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Ayuda has office locations in Washington, DC, Silver Spring, MD, and Falls Church, VA.

Requirements

WHAT WILL THIS JOB ENTAIL?

Writing & Document Organizing

  • Prepare narrative outlines for grant applications
  • Create and organize attachments for grant applications and create and upload documents for the Common Shared Grants Folder such as grant summary sheets
  • Ensure that grant reports (review monthly) and other key documents are saved on SharePoint
  • Write Letters of Intent (LOIs) and grant applications to foundations for general support and non-complex program requests (few letters and proposals anticipated throughout the year. 

Research

  • Manage Ayuda’s mini-grant library by gathering and organizing external reports and statistics to be used in grant applications and grant reports
  • Manage and build Ayuda’s internal training resources for staff on the grant writing and grant management process
  • Manage the institutional funding research process by conducting research on government grant opportunities and potential foundation supporters

Database & Data

  • Maintain the proposal calendar and the reporting calendar through Excel and Ayuda’s grant database, GrantHub, and enter other information into GrantHub ensuring that data is complete and accurate 
  • Run reports in GrantHub
  • Support program leadership in gathering datapoints for grant reporting, with a future possibility of becoming more involved in program data 

Other

  • Co-lead training for Ayuda employees on grants (monthly grants orientation for new employees and other training throughout the year)
  • Represent Ayuda at external meetings, informational sessions, and conferences with funders and potential funders
  • Contribute to the development of Ayuda’s strategy to grow foundation and government grant funding 
  • Submit grant applications that are paper-based
  • Complete other tasks as assigned 


HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU CAN DO THIS JOB?

Eligibility: Must be legally able to work in the United States and maintain proper work authorization throughout employment. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position presented in a general office environment. 

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Experience with grant writing (could be an unpaid experience) or completed a course or training on grant writing required
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Comfortable with databases 
  • Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines
  • Willing to travel to Ayuda’s offices on a regular basis and be based in Ayuda’s Washington, DC office
  • Interest in working with program staff across the organization
  • Team player comfortable with leading on some projects and contributing on others

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The salary is commensurate with experience and comes with a robust benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, long-term disability insurance, life and AD&D insurance as well as an employer-provided retirement match. All federal holidays are observed, and Ayuda offers paid leave for the week of Christmas through New Year’s Day. This position is exempt for overtime purposes.
