Do you want to help make the world a better place with your expertise working on climate justice? We are seeking a 6 months fixed term Program Officer based in Washington D.C or New York to carry out existing grant making obligations, assisting the team in finalizing our program's new strategy, and managing relationships with other OSF entities and grantees.

The Economic Justice Program works globally to promote economic systems and practices that build more equitable, sustainable, and democratic societies. As a Program Officer at Open Society, you will:

  • Be responsible for grant-making activities, including drafting grant recommendations and organizational assessments of new and existing grantees;
  • Scope new potential grant making opportunities related to climate justice and corporate policy capture;
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside OSF (e.g., with existing grantees, prospective grantees, experts in the community, etc.).

What we are looking for:

  • 7 -10 years of progressively responsible experience, with specific experience in the field of economic governance more broadly;
  • Expertise working on climate justice, ideally at the intersection of climate and economic systems, especially the influence of corporate power.
  • Knowledge of key organizations and networks active in any of the following fields: climate justice, corporate policy capture/accountability/trade governance;
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, troubleshoot and follow projects through to completion, with strict deadlines and without loss of attention to detail, budget and reporting;
  • Willingness to travel internationally a reasonable amount;

Desirable (but not required):

  • Experience in working on trade, especially from an environmental or dispute resolution perspective is highly desirable;
  • Fluency in at least one language in addition to English highly desirable;
  • Experience interacting with non-profit organizations in a donor capacity highly desirable;
  • Experience working for or with the impact investment community a plus.
