The Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA (AAWL & SPCA) – the largest and oldest no-kill shelter in Arizona – is seeking a full-time Foster Family Coordinator to oversee AAWL’s database of 300+ foster

families while also growing the database to welcome new members. The coordinator will work within the Volunteer and Events Department and be expected to collaborate inter-departmentally to provide support to help place all AAWL neonate, medical, and behavior fosters into loving, temporary \placement.

The Foster Family Coordinator will be positioned to significantly impact the volunteer/foster/community outreach programs of AAWL, helping to increase the number foster families to support our shelter staff and animals. Our fosters play a critical role in ensuring

our adoption program is serving community needs and saving animals’ lives.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in Phoenix and presents an exciting opportunity for a professional who has a desire to strengthen our shelter, volunteer, and foster programs and has a deep passion for engaging community members in animal welfare work.  The Foster Family Coordinator will be expected to work a Tuesday – Saturday schedule, with Saturdays required. This

position reports directly to the Volunteer & Event Manager, and is expected to work collaboratively with the Foster Manager, Medical teams, and Director of Animal Management.  The Foster Family Coordinator serves as a key member of a small, but growing, Volunteer & Events team.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Organize, review,  and filter foster applications for new and current fosters.        

Develop strategies to grow our foster database by identifying, recruiting and training fosters through speaking engagements, community events, etc. including handling logistics, agendas, and content for a quarterly series of classes.        

Oversee database system Better Impact to ensure records are up to date, including tracking foster hours for use in grants and board reports, while also tracking retention and continued education by

regularly updating the database.          

Create content for AAWL monthly Foster newsletter, Foster Facebook pages, as well as Trello foster posting boards.         

Create online educational content for foster parents to utilize (training videos, resource packets, etc). Create and maintain digital orientation and digital training classes, while also working

with staff and partners on in-person training class opportunities.        

Maintain day-to-day relations and communication with fosters. Provide top-notch customer service to our fosters, including helping them address concerns or responding to their questions.         

Organize mixers/social gatherings with foster parents throughout the year, including Volunteer Appreciation Week and annual Volunteer & Staff Appreciation Event, while staffing and supporting other community events as needed for recruitment.         

Cover 24-Hour emergency cell phone on a rotating basis every five weeks along with the foster team for on-call assistance to foster families with medical emergencies.         

Post foster requests on our internal social media pages (AAWL Foster Parents Facebook Page, Trello). If necessary, work with the Marketing team to promote any medical or behavior animals that need placement when no internal foster can be found, and to promote Homeward Bound dogs and cats on social media/PR.       

Check in daily with Foster, Medical, and Behavior teams to follow up on foster placement needs in order to place dogs or cats with current or new foster parents.        

Check foster request form and spreadsheet to update details daily on status of animals and foster parents.        

Assist in the gathering of supplies and resources when fosters are scheduled to pick-up.        

Conduct all pre-pickup interviews for foster parents to ensure they are a good fit for the animal in need and are aware of the time commitments, details, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS          

At least one year of strong customer service experience.   

Must be a people person and have strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working with diverse communities and building strong, collaborative relationships with volunteers, staff, and the public.       

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to speak comfortably with volunteers about how to manage and resolve conflicts and problem solve.           

Ability to speak and write in Spanish preferred (not required).        

Ability to work with diverse individuals within the broader community and within our AAWL organization, including staff and volunteers.         

Knowledge of basic computer software like Microsoft suite, Google drive, etc.

Must be able to work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

AAWL offers compensation that is commensurate with experience and competitive with animal welfare salaries.  Starting salary for this position is  $16.00/hr. Benefits include employer-paid medical insurance, paid vacation/sick time off, and 12 paid holidays. This is a full-time, non-exempt.
