IRC's Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee's private sector resources (financially contributing circa USD200m per annum, as well as key partnerships and influence that support our mission), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of IRC's brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals.
The IRC's strategy centers on its ambition to continue to improve the scale and effectiveness of IRC programs worldwide with evidence of what works best to impact people's lives in conflict and fragile settings. GPP comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, account management, leadership gifts, board liaison, corporate partnerships, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. These colleagues are primarily located in the USA at present - but IRC plans to significantly expand its global fundraising footprint. Other colleagues within IRC are also deeply engaged with private funding & partners - in particular within Europe, US Resettlement and field programmes - and we need to work in close integrated collaboration to ensure best use of resources and highest impact for IRC.
GPP has begun delivering a new radical and ambitious 2020 Private Sector Engagement strategy that will enhance IRC's ability to 'punch above its weight' in income, partnership and awareness. At the same time - believing that the root of our success lies in a high performance team and culture - we need to build our internal infrastructure, ensure we build a strong global team, a dynamic culture, a forward thinking ethos, and establish 21st century analytics, reporting, operational and business management practices that will help us achieve our ambitious goals.
The Senior Director of Leadership Gifts USA provides strategic leadership, direction and management to implement and lead major donor and planned giving strategies in order to maximize unrestricted and restricted revenue and deferred gifts to the IRC in a cost effective and time-efficient manner. To craft and execute strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects and to analyze and adjust techniques as necessary. To oversee Leadership Gift's budget and operational systems, and across unit systems.
Reporting to the Vice President USA Philanthropy and working in collaboration with a broad constituency of IRC functions, including Executive and Board leadership, as well as the larger fundraising team in NY and across the US to coordinate and strengthen IRC's individual support.
- Provide dynamic and effective thought leadership for LG's efforts towards increased financial revenue, and other modes of individual gifts that support impactful delivery of IRC's mandate and mission;
- Oversee and guide development and implementation of LG's engagement and revenue strategy activities, focused on US-focused individual gifts
- Lead and support the LG team's efforts by personally cultivating and soliciting high-level, high-impact partnerships that call for a level of seniority/technical competence where director-level participation is relevant and appropriate;
- Inspire, motivate and challenge the LG team through active mentorship, fostering an environment that supports new ideas and innovative approaches to partnership development and relationship management;
- Lead and drive the development and success of a consistent global "one team" approach to the strategic relationship planning, outreach and management of individual giving and maximizing those relationships to support IRC's mission and mandate, while respecting internal IRC management/reporting structures;
- Partner with VP, USA Philanthropy to set annual, and more regular, goals and key outcomes for LG's efforts;
- Work with IRC's senior leadership, program staff, and relevant colleagues across External Relations to create compelling cases for philanthropic investment and engagement opportunities for donors at the highest levels;
- With the VP, USA Philanthropy and other department senior managers, lead on the development and implementation of standards, tools and procedures towards a best-in-class approach to USA Leadership Giving.
- Manage the LG unit budget with commitment, integrity and accountability to the "IRC Way" - IRC Global Standards of Professional Conduct
- Oversee donor relations operations team tasked with integrating cross-functional support such as writing and data & stewardship for the LG team.
Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree a plus
- 10+ years professional experience leading and building the infrastructure of a complex Leadership Gifts revenue program;
- Proven successful track record of cultivation, solicitation, and management of high-yield, high-value multi-faceted Leadership Gifts partnerships;
- Non-profit and/or international humanitarian aid experience a plus.

- Understanding of and experience of communications strategies in support of income generation and broader stakeholder engagement
Key Working Relationships:
Position reports to: Vice President, USA Philanthropy
Position directly supervises: 5 Directors, 2 Associate Directors, 1 Officer and 1 Writer. Indirectly: team of 42
Working Environment: This role requires working remotely full or part time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
