Bike New York’s Education department seeks an energetic, organized, and enthusiastic person to manage our ever expanding youth programs. These include but are not limited to Bike New York’s Summer, After School, and Bike Safety Assembly programs, Youth Ride Club, and occasional one-off youth events. The youth programs manager assists in the development and management of our partnerships with Department of Education. Bike New York works with schools, summer camps, after school programs, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to provide youth with on-bike traffic skills education and opportunities to take bike rides with trained Bike New York instructors. Our youth programs also teach kids how to ride a bike for the first time if they don’t know how. The Youth Programs Manager will be in charge of running existing programs as well as helping to design and implement new, effective, and re-producible models for delivering bike education. An important part of this position involves using and developing analytical tools which measure program performance and impact, such as partner participation/no show and on-time rates, instructor evaluation tools, etc. The Youth Programs Manager position will combine some office work with field work at our program sites. Depending on qualifications and experience, the Youth Programs Manager may also be asked to oversee our Gear Femmes womens’ program.
●Assist our Outreach and Communications Department with marketing of youth programs, recruiting youth organizations, and setting summer and after school program schedules.
●Recruit, Hire, and Train a team of 30+ youth instructors who will teach Bike New York’s youth programs.
●Overseeing program delivery; supporting and monitoring instructors; filling in as a substitute instructor as needed.
●Overseeing our evaluation tools to monitor youth learning and program outcomes, as well as evaluating how to deliver our programs more effectively and efficiently.
●Develop new analytical tools to track program effectiveness, stakeholders’ participation.
●Managing liability waivers for all youth participants
● Correspond with other youth organizations’ youth program directors and youth chaperones about schedules, expectations, and Bike New York policies, and ensure that Bike New York’s participation policies are followed.
●Candidates should have a passion for cycling, active transportation and education, with an outgoing and enthusiastic personality. The successful candidate must have very strong organizational and communication skills.
●Bachelor’s degree (education, planning, health, recreation degrees especially encouraged).
●Experience working with Urban Youth.
● Experience working with city/government agencies (DOE, DOT, DYCD), and city contract & budget procedures.
●Awareness of trends and best practices in delivery of youth bicycle education, especially in schools.
●Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and knowledgeable about online scheduling, communication, and tracking systems.
●Strong organization skills.
●Bi-lingual abilities a plus.
●Strong connections to the New York City bike community is very desirable.
●LCI certification or willingness and ability to earn LCI certification.
●Ability to work well with others in a friendly, hard-working office environment.
