School Nurse

Sheridan School is seeking a full-time BSN/RN school nurse to begin in April 2021. The school nurse provides direct medical care to students, faculty and staff as needed, administers medications, maintains student health records as mandated by law, assists with wellness education for students, and partners with school administrators on the implementation and execution of health and safety policies to prevent and limit illness in our community, including COVID-19.  This is a year-round, full-time position that includes preparation for and support of our summer camp program. 

Sheridan is a progressive K-8 school in northwest Washington, DC, serving 225 children during the school year and hundreds of campers each summer. In addition to the duties above, the school nurse coordinates staff training for CPR/first aid and medication administration, collaborates with our educational partners at our Mountain Campus in Luray, Virginia, and serves as a liaison to local health officials. When there are no medical duties to perform, the school nurse assists the front office staff as requested. 

To succeed in this position, the school nurse must be: 

• Knowledgeable about illnesses and conditions common  to children
• Skilled in first aid, treatment of minor injuries and identification of illnesses
• Trained in diabetes care
• Organized and able to manage student health records and other data on digital platforms  (experience with Magnus Health is a plus)
• Flexible in assisting with non-nursing duties as requested
• Organized and able to communicate with children, their families, and teachers.
• Committed to partnership with families, faculty and staff to ensure a positive and healthy learning environment for children

Qualified candidates will hold a BSN from an accredited school of nursing and possess an active Washington, DC RN license. Previous experience working with children is preferred.
