Program Description: 

Sunnyside Community Services’ (SCS) Adult and Immigrant Services offers courses to improve English language proficiency, assists individuals who experience financial emergencies, provides free immigration legal services, and advocates on behalf and alongside immigrants in Western Queens.

In August 2020, SCS joined the Covid-Free Queens campaign led by partner, Public Health Solutions. Our mandate is to inform community members on Covid-19 prevention literature, distribute face masks, and develop strategies for effective community engagement.

Role Description:

Adult and Immigrant Services seeks a full-time Community Organizer. Reporting to the Director of Adult and Immigrant Services, the Community Organizer will be responsible for supervising a team of outreach assistants and, as a team, engaging community members by providing Covid-19-related literature and distributing facial coverings. Additionally, the Community Organizer will develop townhalls on Covid-19-related topics for targeted groups such as ESOL students, caregivers, home health aides, and parents in school-based programs. The Community Organizer will be responsible for maintaining accurate data related to the distribution of literature, face masks, and other related materials.

Responsibilities:

Planning and Implementation

Working under the leadership of the Director of Adult and Immigrant Services, the Community Organizer will:

·       Execute comprehensive outreach plan to ensure that outcomes are being met in accordance to the Covid-Free Queens mandate;

·       Supervise a team of four outreach assistants including hosting weekly meetings;

·       Engage community members through a variety of activities including canvassing/tabling, phone-banking/text-banking and townhalls;

·       Establish and maintain relationships with SCS stakeholders by phone, through email, or other text-based community formats; 

·       Participate in trainings and professional development opportunities;

·       Develop and maintain contact with coalition members and partner organizations


Data Collection, Tracking and Reporting

·       Maintain a comprehensive tracking log for each activity in organization database.

·       Enter and analyze weekly data on Salesforce to track performance and effectiveness.

·       Work closely with team to provide data-informed recommendations to improve programming.

·       Adhere to all data security and privacy protocols

Qualifications:

·       Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred

·       Bachelor’s degree in community organizing, public health or related field; 2-3 years relevant experience

·       Experience in community organizing/community engagement, campaign work, or other forms of direct outreach;

·       Experience managing field staff and/or volunteers;

·       Excellent communication and project management skills;

·       Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills;

·       Demonstrated cultural competence with respect to immigrant communities;

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Web-Based Office Suite;

·       Proficiency in use of technology such as laptop computers and tablets;
