About the School:

The Lycée Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable is a nonprofit, Section 501(c)(3), bilingual school that provides students, from nursery through 7th grade, an education that engages their natural curiosities, nurtures critical thinking, and helps to develop a sense of community and social responsibility. Through a teaching approach that is fundamentally hands-on and child-centered, LJBPS students develop the courage and confidence to think independently, work collaboratively, understand themselves and others more deeply, and possess the compassion to make a positive impact in the world.


General Position Description:

The LJBPS is seeking applicants for potential classroom teacher openings in Grades 1-7. LJBPS teachers are responsible for curriculum development, instruction, assessment, parent engagement and communication, professional collaboration, and promoting a positive school culture.


Essential Responsibilities:

The classroom teacher is responsible for teaching children in all subject areas, planning to meet the needs of the entire group, as well as individual children. Enabling the social/emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each child is his/her primary responsibility.


Work with Environment and Materials:

The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing, and maintaining a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children and creating and preparing materials that serve the curriculum. The teacher should be able to use various forms of technology to enhance student learning.


LJBPS Curriculum:

The teacher is responsible for developing lesson plans in all areas based on children's developmental capacities and needs and current understanding of literacy learning, mathematics, and interdisciplinary curriculum development in social studies, science, and the arts. A multicultural understanding must be reflected in the curriculum developed for children.


Visitors:

The LJBPS is a model school, and teachers may be asked to allow visitors into their classrooms.


Interested candidates should:

- be able to work in a multilingual/multicultural setting

- have experience teaching elementary school students in all subject areas

- have training in elementary childhood or middle school education

- have strong writing and speaking skills in English (preferably native speaker)

- be technology savvy

- enjoy working collaboratively on curriculum development, sharing best teaching practices

- demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to social justice and equity

- have graduated with a BA in education (teacher certification preferred)

- possess strong interpersonal, and organizational skills
