CASE COORDINATOR (BILINGUAL ENGLISH/SPANISH), HURRICANE EVACUEE SERVICES


NYDIS is a 501(c)(3) faith-based federation of faith communities, human services providers and charitable organizations who work in partnership to provide disaster readiness, response, and recovery services to New York City. Our mission is to inspire, connect, and provide resources for New York City faith communities serving in disaster to create an urban environment for social justice for all.


NYDIS is seeking a full-time bi-lingual Case Coordinator who will be based at the NYDIS offices near Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan. The coordinator will be responsible for helping evacuees of the 2017 Hurricanes in Puerto Rico (PR) and the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) in accessing their eligibility for disaster case management and other unmet needs. The coordinator will report to the Manager of Client Services. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.


Duties include:

  • Manage evacuee services hotline and direct calls and questions accordingly
  • Conduct client intake and assessment, primarily via phone, for Puerto Rico evacuee households. Intake will determine if they are eligible for Disaster Case Management.  
  • Assist in the assignment of cases between four Disaster Case Management agencies
  • Assign priority levels based on need
  • Input client information and referrals into an online database (Coordinated Assistance Network)
  • Learn and remain knowledgeable about constantly changing recovery resources
  • Other roles as assigned


Qualifications include:

  • Possess a client-centric approach to case management and disaster recovery work
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - in person, in writing, and on the phone
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Positive energy and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff
  • Computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, databases and internet


Education and/or Requirements: 

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken, is required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience in case management, benefits coordination, or general casework
  • A narcotics drug test and federal level background check must be completed prior to hire date


Salary range of $35,000-$40,000 commensurate with experience – with excellent benefits.
