The Center for Advancing Domestic Peace has been working to build safe homes and communities since 2003.

As the only Chicago-area nonprofit solely dedicated to this mission, we work to stop domestic violence where it starts by helping those who have harmed take responsibility for their behavior, create healthy relationships, and strengthen their communities. Our partner abuse intervention services - offered in English and Spanish - are available to both men and women regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. 

General Job Description:

Center for Advancing Domestic Peace seeks an energetic, organized, and critical thinker to serve as the Assistant Director to work with the Executive Director and other members of the management team in agency planning, program implementation, and outcome monitoring. The Assistant Director will help the agency attain its goals and objectives consistent with its mission as well as support employee satisfaction and competence. The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with the Program Managers to provide programmatic oversight consistent with agency goals, procedures and policies. The Assistant Director will assist with grant management, report preparation, fiscal oversight, budgeting and monitoring of expenses, assure timely billing for fee-for-service contracts, and collaborate in program planning and evaluation. Additional responsibilities include Human Resource assignments including evaluating the Center's diversity, inclusion and equity plan as well as representing the agency when needed as well as completing other duties assigned by the Executive Director.

The Assistant Director is a member of the Management Team, which works to develop consensus on policy and best practice.

Skills Needed:

  • Proven experience as assistant director or other similar position
  • Human Resource and onboarding experience
  • Performance and operations management
  • Experience in billing, budgeting, fiscal oversight, and grant monitoring/reporting
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality assurance standards
  • Proficient in MS Office, relational databases and software
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Aptitude in problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Not-for-profit management experience
  • Demonstrated professional writing abilities
  • Support of and belief in the mission of the Center for Advancing Domestic Peace
  • BSc/BA in business administration or related field; MSc/MA is an asset

Covid-19 Considerations:

We are primarily working remotely but are making plans for a hybrid model which includes a combination of remote and office work. When working at the office staff are required to wear a mask as are clients with procedures for consistent office sanitization in place.
