Position Overview:

The Seattle Symphony Art Director is an in-house position responsible for creating design solutions with a high visual impact for print, advertising, marketing and fundraising materials. The successful candidate will demonstrate ability to maintain high level of cohesive success for graphics and brand across all deliverables. 



·        Minimum of a BFA in Visual Communication Design/graphic design and a minimum of 2-4 years of prior Art Direction work

·        Proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite (CC) within a Mac environment including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects required

·        Complete understanding of photography, typography, design and printing while maintaining a high level of detail and standards

·        Keen interest in social and cultural design trends

·        Must be self-motivated leader with effective problem-solving skills and collaborative work style

·        Ability to manage multiple projects with established deadlines

·        Strong communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

·        Proven history of ability to manage and maintain brand standards

·        Proficiency of printing techniques, request quotes, negotiate fees, and press checking


Essential Job Functions:

·        Guide and maintain design standards for the Seattle Symphony and Benaroya Hall cooperatively working with all department to ensure consistency of brand

·        Maintain a timely and organized schedule of all jobs and work flow of the department

·        Work closely with Sr. Director of Marketing and Sales in the creative conception, messaging and overall design of all marketing materials

·        Produce concepts, storyboards, layouts based on creative visions and ideas

·        Create and manage the graphic design team work designing brochures, display ads and publications, and website graphics

·        Manage creation of original artwork, layout and design by others; coordinate bidding and work within budget on printing; see all design jobs through to completion
