Our comprehensive youth programs are designed to enhance the lives of underrepresented urban youth between the ages of 7 – 17 by providing student development opportunities through mentoring, tutoring, academic enrichment, life skills, social skills enhancement, and conflict resolution.

We aim to provide after-school/out-of-school time programs that provide children and teens with a safe and fun environment while providing diverse academic and social experiences.

The overall role of the Director of Youth-Based Programs is to ensure the safety of children, design appropriate activities, record the progress of the program, manage youth program staff and to ensure appropriate/timely billing of services.

General Description: Under the direction of the Director of the After School Youth Program and/or designee, the Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the After School Program and Summer Youth Program which includes supervision of the program staff, including assistants, tutors, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Recruit program participants and provide a multitude of educational and social activities for youth participants.

• Develop and coordinate a variety of educational, cultural, and social activities throughout the school year and summer for youth ages 7 thru 17.

• Supervise program assistants, tutors, and volunteer staff.

• Accurately maintain records of program activities and progress of participants and report outcomes to stakeholders (parents, school, Director of After School program, etc.)

• Distribute daily meals to program participants in a clean and safe manner.

• Train program participants in behavior modification and daily living skills.

• Create field trip opportunities and transport program participants to and from field trips, program activities, and/or chaperon youth during field trips.

• Perform and monitor front desk duties, including monitoring of visitors, and other duties as assigned by     supervisor and/or designee.

• Identify areas where new programs are needed.

• Develop a plan for implementation of new programs.

• Encourage local youth to participate in regional and territorial programs.

• Collaborate with existing organizations to enhance youth programming.

• Remain objective and maintain good conduct and behavior befitting a person in the position of leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field of study such as, education, sociology, social work, child development, youth/family studies, or similar.

• Must have at least two (2) years of youth/teen program management/operations experience, which may include volunteer work.

• Experience managing staff (preferred).

• Experience working with multiple projects or programs at the same time.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Experience in working with urban and underserved/underrepresented youth, families, and communities (preferred)

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

• Experience meeting tight deadlines. Experience in program recruitment/retention

• Must be able to clear a National Criminal History check, Michigan State Police clearance check, sex offender check, fingerprint clearance, and other required clearances.
