About the Position

The Mental Health Association of Fauquier County, a grassroots, nonprofit organization with a long history of advocating for high quality and accessible mental health services in Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, is hiring a Communications and Outreach Manager.

The Communication and Outreach Manager’s primary position is to support the Executive Director with enacting our communications plan, developing for content for educational presentations, collaborating with community partners to achieve common goals as they relate to mental wellness, and support other administrative tasks as needed. The Communication and Outreach Manager is expected to give presentations to community groups.

Below is the summary of general duties but not an exhaustive list: 

Core Responsibilities

Community Education

  • Oversee MHAFC’s Mental Health First Aid program (which includes instructing courses, scheduling class dates, overseeing registration, working with two software systems to ensure participants are registered for classes and assigned pre-work, taking reservations, logging cancellations, and scheduling classes)
  • Work with local schools, community groups, and businesses to schedule presentations and oversee educational programs as they relate to mental wellness

Outreach/Marketing

  • Develop and enact outreach strategies which includes traditional marketing channels, social media, and website
  • Develop the monthly and quarertly newsletters targeted to various constituent groups
  • Develop and design marketing materials to promote MHAFC and its programs and events

Administrative Support

  • Schedule internal and external stakeholder meetings and trainings as needed
  • Take notes at MHAFC Board, committee meetings, and other meetings, as assigned
  • Assist with coordination of fundraisers and events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health, education, nonprofit management, or related area of study
  • Previous experience developing educational presentations, overseeing programs, and/or nonprofit outreach 
  • Be willing to get certified as a Mental Health First Aid instructor (3-day training and oral exam exhibiting knowledge of content required) 
  • Skilled in communicating with diverse groups and partner organizations, press, volunteers, donors, and the general public 
  • Have a valid driver’s license
