The Community Voters Project is seeking a Regional Director to manage our site-based non-partisan voter registration campaigns in communities of color across the country during 2017-2018.


Community Voters Project

The non-partisan Community Voters Project is a project of Fair Share Education Fund with a goal of increasing voter registration and participation rates in communities of color. We help to increase civic engagement among underserved and underrepresented communities, focusing primarily on African Americans and Latinos through non-partisan voter registration.

 

In coordination with our allies, we use a site-based canvassing model to identify and help register new voters, with a goal of achieving a measurable increase in African American and Latino voter participation. We run civic engagement offices. We hire and train teams of hard-working directors, field managers and canvassers who go out into communities and help people register to vote. We are building on more than three decades of experience, during which The Community Voters Project and its affiliated organizations helped to register over three million voters. In 2015-2016 alone, we helped register 215,000 voters in PA, NC, FL, GA, CO and AZ.

 

In the 2017-2018 cycle, we plan to help 200,000 African American and Latino people register to vote in as many as 7 states through on-the-ground, site-based programs designed to reach as many unregistered potential voters as possible.

 

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Community Voters Project Regional Director will be responsible for working with the Field Director to set up and run our 2017-2018 Voter Registration Program. That includes:

  • You will manage a team of entry-level canvass directors based in 4-5 offices spread across one or multiple states. You will work with them to hit goals and comply with federal and state voter registration laws. You will work with them individually over the phone, through in-person site visits, by holding regional trainings, and by organizing webinars and conference calls.
  • You will spread the word about positions with Community Voters Project in local communities, on college campuses, and online. You will conduct interviews and participate in hiring decisions.

·        Working with the Field Director of Community Voters Project to make the plan for our field program each week to ensure we are on track to hit our goals

·        Planning and running trainings to kick off the campaign

·        Setting up and maintaining systems to run offices, help people register to vote, and keep track of all our work

·        Representing Community Voters Project by working with election officials and civic engagement coalitions


·        And other duties as assigned

 

The Community Voters Project Regional Director reports directly to the Community Voters Project Field Director and is also accountable to the Director of the Community Voters Project and to the Public Interest Network’s leadership.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate for Community Voters Project Regional Director will be:

●    An effective team-builder who can recruit high-level staff, provide training and development, and shape a committed group.

●    An experienced campaign director, who has managed outreach operations.

●    Creative, effective at solving problems, and analytic with the ability to assess and improve the plan of a fast-moving campaign.

●    Have demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in solving problems.

●    A good people-person/listener with a track record of successful hiring and staff retention.

●    Detail-oriented: able to keep a budget and remain on top of finances. Will ensure legal and financial compliance for the Community Voters Project.

 

Minimum qualifications include: 3 years of experience in campaign or program development and management, grassroots organizing, organization building, and/or campaign politics. Related advanced degrees such as a J.D. or Master’s may count towards experience, but are not required. Ideal applicants will have a track record that illustrates a strong work ethic and an uncompromising commitment to getting the job done.
