    Summary

    We are looking for a person to design a comprehensive competency-based, youth centered approach of The U School at the middle school level in Philadelphia. Using both research based strategies and the core design principles the designer will organize a comprehensive middle school plan with corresponding interdisciplinary curricula, and addenda for opportunities to pilot the program in just one grade.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Analysis of the field: What is happening nationally to support and push this work forward?
    • Getting to know The U School by spending time here and understanding the model
    • Create a timeline of deliverables to facilitate transparency and accountability of the project
    • Design a comprehensive plan (Academic, Culture, Support, Adult Development, Organization, etc) for a competency-based, youth centered middle school with the purpose of utilizing the plan to advocate for its creation
    • Products: SDP, Funders, Educators, Students and Families
    • Cultivate partnerships that strategically enhance the quality of the plan, and increase likelihood of adoption
    • Bi-weekly meetings for progress with Principal and ED/D
    • Provide quarterly updates to the board on progress

    Qualifications

    • Experience writing program design or curriculum
    • Project-based learning, youth development
    • Restorative practices
    • Knowledge of middle school developmental milestones, curriculum
    • Educator in middle school environment (preferably in Philadelphia)
    • Ability to apply competency-based learning framework to middle school
    • Ability to apply youth development concepts to middle school
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly

    Preference: Philadelphia resident

    Deliverable: Comprehensive Plan for a middle school with addendums to implement pilots in different ways, aligned curricular plans (using the charter application?)

    Time: Up to 20 hrs a week

    Compensation: $35-50/hr depending on experience
