Position purpose Teach a total of five classes, including: Physics to 9th and 12th Graders, and one AP Physics class.  We are actively seeking someone who will transform the science learning experience and who will inspire students who are frequently left behind in this field.  We are looking for someone with a passion for hands on science instruction, a commitment to an instructional team, and a zeal for working with high-poverty, diverse teenagers.

Major responsibilities  Teach five science courses: four Conceptual Physics and one Advanced Placement Physics.  Work in collaboration with science team to build a strong, inquiry-based, experiential curriculum founded on the Next Generation Science Standards.

Essential job functions 1. Work collaboratively with a department team focused on student achievement and data-driven instruction; 2. Build, monitor, and revise a stout curriculum using Understanding by Design methods; 3. Prepare lessons, grade student work, maintain digital gradebook, and use Google apps; 4. Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional team; 5. Communicate effectively with families; 6. Help with vigilance at school assemblies, prayer services/masses, and other class or school gatherings; 7. As a 9th Grade Level Team member work in collaboration on student professionalism.

Required qualifications 1. Oregon Teaching license in Physics, or related field; 2. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics or related field.  2. Experience in teaching hands-on science labs at all levels of high school; 3. Preferred experience with curriculum development; 4. Utilize effective research-based instruction and assessment; 5. Bilingual in Spanish preferred; 6. Able to work outside normal schedule periodically in collaboration with colleagues.


Standard school year schedule, 10 days paid sick/personal time, 13 paid holidays, Medical/Dental/Vision with a shared premium cost, employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability, EAP program, and a 403b plan.
