Justice Matters is a diverse and growing coalition of 21 congregations fighting for racial and economic justice in Lawrence, Kansas. Our shared faith values call us to work collectively for systemic change, transforming Lawrence into a community that reflects the dignity of all people.
Since its founding in 2014, Justice Matters has won dedicated funding for the creation of permanent affordable housing, implementation of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) screening in the largest pediatric and obstetric offices in Lawrence, and implementation of restorative justice programming at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School. We are currently working to combat mass incarceration by finding alternatives to incarceration and opposing the expansion of the Douglas County Jail (read more at www.jailNO.org) .
Justice Matters is part of the DART network of organizations, one of the largest networks of faith-based community organizations in the country.
We're hiring a full-time community organizer who will build relationships with faith leaders and community members from diverse backgrounds, train and develop their organizing skills, and deepen their participation in the work of the organization.
During your first five months, you will receive intensive on-the-job training through the DART Organizers Institute. You will learn basic organizing principles and develop key organizing skills including: finding and developing leaders, issue research and strategy, power analysis, and one-to-one meetings. Ongoing professional development will continue through individualized coaching and mentoring, as well as local, regional, and national staff trainings and retreats.
People of color and fluent speakers of Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply. No prior organizing experience is necessary. Qualities we look for include:

By August 13, 2018, you'll also need a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience, access to a car, and proof of US citizenship, permanent residency, or deferred action for childhood arrivals.
Starting salary is $34,000-36,000/year plus health benefits, with regular cost of living increases and performance-based raises. For candidates relocating more than 50 miles, $250 is paid to help cover relocation costs. Retirement benefits begin after a prescribed period (usually one full year of employment).
