Job Title: Social Media Manager

Employment Status: Full-Time Employee

Compensation Range: $65-70k salary, determined by experience and qualifications 

Location: This is a remote position through 2020, but a preference for someone based in the Bay Area or Los Angeles. The individual will be expected to work with a team based entirely on the West Coast. 

Reports To: Communications Director

The Center for Cultural Power is creating a thriving ecosystem for artists and culture makers who are dismantling systems of oppression and are dedicated to transformational creative practices. We build artist power through fellowships, trainings, and activations. We create intersectional stories and content addressing issues of migration, climate and gender justice. We engage groups in cultural strategy and are co-creating a field of cultural strategy with organizations and practitioners through convenings, design teams, and strategy tables.

Position Overview

At a high level, the Social Media Manager is responsible for managing Cultural Power’s external-facing brand and voice, ensuring it is relevant to the values and work of the organization, as well as the evolving cultural landscape of the country. The Social Media Manager does so by leading the organization’s social media and PR strategy and developing/implementing a plan to significantly grow and engage digital audiences across the organization

Social Media Strategy 

  • Develop and present a vision for social growth and engagement strategies for The Center for Cultural Power 
  • Manage, draft, and produce content for all social media channels. Manage social media copywriter consultant. 
  • Partner with and commission key artists to drive org narratives and interest areas 
  • Manage rapid responses to cultural and movement moments across social media channels, amplifying allies and driving creative content to respond to the moment. 
  • Work with Programs Team to fully integrate social with programmatic calendar, issue areas, and artist/movement partners 
  • Coordinate with President to capture social media needs, new stories, new partners, and thought leadership conversations 
  • Shape organizational messaging and narratives, and position Cultural Power around those narratives on social channels, incorporating our key issues (Climate, Immigration, Racial and Gender Justice) and key strategies for campaign. movement, and cultural moments 
  • Seek partnerships to expand reach and influence, including with “influencers”; develop and manage an influencer strategy for social 



Audience Development / Tracking & Metrics 

  • Bring a new level of analytics and analysis to demonstrate trends on how our interventions work across social media channels to engage our core audience Present and manage an audience development strategy that is aligned with organizational needs and vision 
  • Understand audiences by channels and create crossover opportunities 
  • Track social media performance, reach, and metrics; identify and share performance insights to inform engagement strategies. 
  • Report, in an ongoing and timely manner, the impact of our social media and PR efforts 
  • Incorporate social audiences into larger org database, as it develops 

Public Relations 

  • Develop Digital Press Kits and lead strategy 
  • Serve as primary liaison with PR firm and report updates and progress to Comms Director, provide PR firm with most up-to-date calendars of org (in partnership with designated liaison of program team) 
  • Incorporate PR work and focus into Editorial Calendar 
  • Work with the Comms Director to identify key focus areas 

Other Organizational Support 

  • Production support as designated for organizational events and convenings 


Qualifications 

  • 3+ years of social media experience and/or digital communications 
  • High level of cultural fluency 
  • A lived commitment to racial, gender, climate, and/or migrant justice; experience working in the arts/culture sector and with BIPOC artists. 
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, copy editing, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to effectively use an intersectional justice frame of reference for everything - writing, ideation, and strategic planning 
  • Experience deploying timely content during rapid-response scenarios 
  • Expert on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; knowledge of other social apps & ability to grow select audiences 
  • Deep familiarity with social media audiences, best practices, and analytics; 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and basic video editing skills 
  • A positive team player with a passion for progressive change. 
  • Good collaborative skills and the dexterity required to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to reach out to partners, artists, and vendors to contract and commission work 
  • Ability to multitask, take initiative, and perform under tight deadlines
