POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an Associate Director position in the Carl G. Grefenstette Center for Ethics in Science, Technology, and Law at Duquesne University. This position will report to the Executive Director (ED). This is a full time, 2-year position that is funded by a newly received grant from the Hillman Foundation.
The Associate Director will work closely with the ED in the main purposes of the center, which involve grant writing, teaching, event coordination, and conducting research. The Associate Director will teach and one or two classes each semester. They will work with the ED to seek after and apply for federal and private grants. They will also assist the ED in organizing the annual Fall Tech Ethics Symposium, the Spring Hacking4Humanity, and regular lectures and public discussions. Finally, the AD will be expected to continue in their own research in the area of technology ethics, science and technology studies, theological studies, religious studies, or a related field.
The Grefenstette Center is a new and growing center that brings Christian values and ideals in a pluralistic framework to grapple with the growing challenges presented by science and technology in society. This position requires someone who is willing to construct the future of the center and work closely with the other team members to make this happen. This is a grant-funded, 2 year position with the possibility of renewal. This position is similar to a postdoctoral appointment, but we are hopefully that it will continue beyond the 2 years. Start date is flexible, but no later than July 1, 2025.
