SFMade is seeking an energetic, highly organized, motivated person to support a suite of innovative, high performing youth and workforce programs with close ties to local businesses. The Workforce and Youth Program Coordinator will execute and manage programs and handle logistics for workforce and youth programs in San Francisco and San Jose.

ABOUT SFMADE: Founded in 2010, SFMade is a groundbreaking non-profit organization focused on building San Francisco’s economic base by developing the urban manufacturing sector. The only organization of its kind, SFMade helps to retain and grow companies producing locally made products, encourages entrepreneurship and innovation and creates employment opportunities for a diverse local workforce. SFMade currently supports more than 600 San Francisco-based manufacturers employing more than 4,000 people. SFMade is viewed as a national model and has created a sister organization,  PlaceMade,, which will complete its first permanently affordable building for manufacturers  in 2018. SFMade will also begin to deliver youth and workforce services in San Jose during 2018.

ABOUT MFG:SJ: Manufacture : San Jose is an initiative of SFMade that launched in April of 2018, in partnership with the City of San Jose, with a mission to drive much needed knowledge, resources, and visibility to the city’s more than 1200 manufacturers and the more than 50,000 men and women they employ. In addition, MFG:SJ also connects job seekers and workforce development services to open positions among our manufacturing partners and, through our YouthMade program, MFG:SJ provides career exposure programs for under resourced youth in San Jose.


ABOUT SFMADE’S HIRING AND YOUTH PROGRAMS: The Hiring Made Better Program connects local job seekers to open positions at manufacturing businesses, with a special focus on connecting people who have overcome barriers to employment to entry level jobs with potential for growth and advancement. Our primary tool is the SFMade Job Board, along with our partnership with local workforce and training organizations. We also provide manufacturing businesses with HR technical assistance,  resource referrals, and educational events. Our youth programs are designed to engage young people in the local manufacturing sector through career exposure and paid internships. 


JOB DUTIES


The Workforce and Youth Programs Coordinator reports to the Workforce and Youth Program Manager. Tasks and projects will include (but not be limited to) the following areas:

  • Job Board
  • Engage businesses to use the job board
  • Manage the Job Board—post openings, send candidates, and track positions
  • Communicate with workforce partners about candidates and positions
  • Workforce Partner Outreach
  • Create and maintain relationships with workforce partners
  • Attend job fairs, workforce program graduations, Job Huddle meetings, and other community events on behalf of SFMade and MFG:SJ
  • Give workforce partner staff presentations
  • Next Generation Manufacturing Training Program
  • Work to place training participants by engaging businesses and partnering with our technical training partner, Humanmade
  • YouthMade
  • Execute logistics for YouthMade programs including business recruitment and scheduling. 
  • Attend in-person or virtual events and introduce participating students and businesses. 
  • Reporting and Data
  • Enter workforce and youth program data into Salesforce
  • Assist with collecting and preparing workforce data
  • Other
  • Coordinate Hiring Made Better event logistics
  • Story development: Gather and write success stories and content for social media and marketing collateral

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in one or more of the following areas: working independently on projects, with small businesses, in the workforce or youth field, and/or marketing and outreach.
  • Post-secondary degree is preferred but will consider any educational or work experience in the fields of public administration, public policy, social work, business, human resources, or related fields.
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills: problem-solving, attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse set of business owners and stakeholders
  • Public speaking skills for group presentations
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite, or similar programs, proficiency in Salesforce or related database, and Internet research abilities.
  • Flexibility, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Passion for the SFMade and MFG:SJ mission.
  • Willingness to travel across the Bay Area, including San Jose, for meetings
