Seattle Counseling Service (www.seattlecounseling.org) is a non-profit community resource that advocates, educates and serves to advance the social well-being and behavioral health of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) community. SCS is seeking an Immigrant, Refugee, and Undocumented Outreach Coordinator.

This is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director. The selected candidate will set discreet objectives to improve access to care for LGBTQ immigrants, refugees undocumented, and asylum-seeking individuals who are not currently accessing SCS services by:

1)   Increasing SCS competency to serve LGBTQ immigrant, refugee, undocumented, and asylum-seeking individuals.

2)   Increasing awareness and cultural sensitivity to LGBTQ immigrant, refugee undocumented, and asylum-seeking populations in King County.

3)   Continue to build and strengthen SCS relationships with organizations that serve the immigrant, refugee, undocumented, and asylum-seeking communities in King County to increase access to services.


Essential Functions:

·        Supports the agency, its mission and the diverse communities we serve.

·        Actively contribute to the development of a behavioral health program specifically focused on the needs LGBTQ immigrant, refugee and undocumented individuals.

·        Develop referral relationships between SCS and other service providers serving refugee, immigrant and undocumented communities and the LGBTQ communities to serve their unmet needs.

·        Coordinate outreach activities with other SCS staff to promote SCS services to LGBTQ immigrant, refugee, undocumented, and asylum-seeking individuals in King County.

·        Represent SCS in service provider networks serving the LGBTQ and immigrant, refugee and undocumented communities to increase LGBTQ immigrant, refugee and undocumented visibility around access to behavioral health services.

·        Create materials to describe SCS services to LGBTQ immigrant, refugee and undocumented communities.

·        Work in collaboration with IRU-serving SCS clinicians to ensure continued access to behavioral health care


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree plus two years’ experience in outreach, education services, or community engagement with immigrant or LGBTQIA+ populations OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bi/multi-lingual and bi/multi-cultural; ability to communicate well cross-culturally
  • Cultural sensitivity to mental health, immigrant, refugee, undocumented, and LGBTQIA+ issues

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Ethnic / Sexuality / Gender / Disability Studies, Law & Society, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Administration, Non-profit Management, or related field
  • Three years’ experience in outreach, education services, and community engagement with immigrant and LGBTQIA+ populations
