The Northern California Rapid Response and Immigrant Defense Network (NCRRIDN) is hiring an Emergency Attorney Legal Responder (EALR), based in Sacramento, CA and focused on responding to ICE arrests and enforcement in that region. The EALR will be housed with the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, in coordination with the Sacramento FUEL Rapid Response Network and the NCRRIDN regional network which includes EALR’s in San Francisco and Fresno.

The​ EALR ​will provide immediate assistance for individuals who contact the local rapid response networks and are processed at the Sacramento processing center. ​The EALR will not have a traditional caseload or represent individuals in immigration court. ​They ​will​ ​serve​ ​to​ ​triage the​ ​case,​ by responding immediately​ ​to​ ​ICE​ ​processing​ ​centers​ ​and/or​ ​detention centers, conducting ​intakes and consultations,​ ​and​ ​in​ ​certain​ ​circumstances,​ ​engage​ ​in​ ​limited​ ​scope representation​ ​to​ prevent ​immediate​ ​deportation​ ​and​​ ​prevent transfer outside of the jurisdiction of Northern California. 

The ​EALR​ ​will​ work with local networks to provide updates regarding case and custody status of detained individuals, advise as to next steps, and identify potential referrals for full-scope representation. ​​​ In addition to their legal work, ​the EALR​ ​will​ also be involved in advocacy with media and elected officials, FOIA requests and data development, as well as documenting and tracking ICE tactics and abuses, prosecutorial misconduct, and legal compliance.

We are looking for candidates with detained immigration experience, Spanish fluency, and a willingness to travel and be part of a new regional model.

Level of Language Proficiency

Fluency in Spanish is highly desired.
