$40,000 - $85,000These ranges are broad because final determinations are made based on specific positions and the norms in particular offices

The Progressive Talent Pipeline is a program to identify, endorse, train, and recommend a diverse slate of committed progressives for staff roles in Congress and the executive branch. (We do not have direct hiring authority over the positions in question.)

Working in government is one of the most strategic ways to impact policy-making and shape the national political discourse, but there is not always an obvious entry point for potential staffers who do not already have insider connections and are not yet trained in the workings of Congress or other parts of the federal government.

Our vision is to bring new perspectives, expertise, and energy into governance in order to “build the bench” of progressive staff talent and advance progressive priorities.

After more than 40 of our initially endorsed candidates secured employment in Congress, we are launching our 2020 cycle ahead of potentially large numbers of openings in Congress and the executive branch.

Are you a progressive thinker, writer, communications maven, organizer or activist who wants to serve as a government staffer in Congress or the executive branch?

Do you have a strong, demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice?

Are fired up to support the kind of policy objectives members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus have led on — things like: advancing Medicare for All, tackling climate change through major public investments, expanding voting rights, ending militarism and unconstitutional wars, reining in the power of Wall Street and Big Pharma, and instituting a humane immigration system?

If so, please apply for the Progressive Talent Pipeline!

Want to apply? Here’s how the Progressive Talent Pipeline works:

1.   Complete our application so we can learn a bit about your background, your ideas, and why you want to join government.

The priority application deadline for the Progressive Talent Pipeline is September 30, 2020 at 11:59pm Pacific Time. Applications received after that deadline will be assessed on a rolling basis, as capacity permits.

2. We'll invite select candidates to interview based on our evaluation of their application. A subset of candidates interviewed will receive an endorsement from the Progressive Talent Pipeline.

For those that apply by the priority deadline, we intend to make endorsement decisions before Thanksgiving.

3. Endorsed candidates will be invited to an online training or series of online trainings in December. (In December of 2018 we had about 150 endorsed candidates come to a three-day training in DC, featuring presentations from current and former Members of Congress, current and former senior government staffers, think tank leaders, and organizers. The training focused on legislative policy making, communications, and a variety of policy issues, empowering program participants to hit the ground running as new Capitol Hill hires. But due to COVID we're moving the 2020 training online, with the exact dates and format still TBD.)

4. Endorsed candidates will apply to roles directly to jobs they're interested in. We will seek to alert candidates about (and recommend candidates for) particular openings that we think might be a good fit for their talents and interests, and we will provide additional advice and guidance to help candidates successfully land a job in Congress or the executive branch. (We do not have direct hiring authority over these positions.)

Note: We want Congress and the executive branch to be staffed with people who represent the diversity of the US and ensure that the people helping to make federal policy both authentically understand and can effectively respond to the needs of communities that can’t afford high-priced lobbyists. So people from historically disenfranchised groups or communities are encouraged to apply.
