About the Position

Muso’s US Finance Manager Associate provides accounting, finance and administrative support to key organizational functions, including grant management, US operations and administration. Administrative responsibilities include HR, legal, and IT support for the US office. This position is based in San Francisco, CA and may require international travel. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer, will support the Finance Manager in Mali, and includes interfacing with the Head of Development and CEO.


The responsibilities of the US Finance Manager may include, but are not limited to:

Accounting & Reporting

·        Maintain financial records and prepare accurate monthly financial statements for US operations in a timely and efficient manner

·        Consolidate global results and provide support for quarterly and annual reports

·        Maintain, manage and improve internal controls

·        Provide support for the preparation and filing of organization’s tax returns and other filings

·        Coordinate annual financial audit with our Finance Manager in Mali and with our auditors

Grant Management

·        Prepare grant budgets, narratives and proposals in collaboration with the Development team

·        Understand and follow prescribed donor policies and regulations

·        Update grant management tools and planning worksheets on a timely basis

·        Lead the preparation of tax filings in both the US and Mali in coordination with the CFO and Finance Manager

·        Update donor management system to maintain a current information database

Financial Management

·        Support other finance operations, including accounts payable, payroll, tax, treasury and contract management

·        Prepare budgets, forecasts and financial analyses

·        Prepare financial reports and provide information to management

HR, Legal, and IT Administration of the US Office

·        Support the recruitment process for US and international personnel

·        Coordinate human resources management for US employees

·        Manage software licenses, IT vendors and coordinate staff requests

Required Skills & Experience

·        Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance preferred)

·        At least 4 years relevant experience in accounting and financial management

·        Experience with grant budgets, reporting and accounting

·        Proficiency with Quickbooks Online or equivalent

·        Highly organized and attentive to detail

·        Integrity, honesty, and mission alignment with Muso’s core mission and vision

·        Able to work effectively and sensitively across cultures and geographies

Not Required, But A Plus

·        Experience in nonprofit accounting
