Grant Writer Job Description

ABOUT EDUCATIONAL ALLIANCE

Since 1889, Educational Alliance (EA) has provided New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds with a diverse range of programs and services. Headquartered on the Lower East Side, EA serves more than 25,000 people a year through early childhood and school-based education programs, older adult services, a teen center, substance use disorder treatment and prevention, and 14th Street Y and Manny Cantor Centers. Every EA programs has a firm commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and community.

At EA, we are reinventing how nonprofits pioneer new programs and deliver direct services to diverse communities. We are the social safety net in action for our clients who need critical services, and we are the community center for our members who want a place to gather and take care of the health, education, and well-being of their families.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Grant Writer will manage a portfolio of new and existing foundation and government funders that support (1) agency general operations and (2) our older adult services division. Comprised of four different programs - the Sirovich Center for Balanced Living, Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, the Co-op Village Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC), and Project ORE – that reach over 5,000 people annually, our older adult services division provides members with a range of educational, recreational, and social services in a welcoming environment that engage both the mind and the body. Depending on the specific site, participants can take advantage of a hot meal; physical fitness classes; pottery, painting, knitting, and other arts workshops; choral groups and musical performances; creative writing, drama, and theater classes; and community advocacy and social events.

As a grant writer, you will be responsible for leading and managing the process of developing letters of inquiry and writing narrative grant proposals and reports to a range of current and prospective private foundations and government agencies. You will work closely with program staff to develop high quality programs that meet the needs of our community; partner with finance to develop budgets, budget narratives, and financial reports; and collaborate with Research and Evaluation to analyze program data and outcomes for use in communication with funders. Finally, you will manage grants and contracts from pre-proposal through award, reporting, and closeout.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

  • Inside the agency the grant writer will collaborate with program staff, other members of our development and communications team, senior executive team members, research and evaluation, and finance staff.
  • Outside the agency this individual will be expected to collaborate with Foundation, Corporate, and Government Officers.
