We are hiring a Director of Programs 

JYCA currently runs programs on the San Francisco Peninsula, in the East Bay, and regionally. We are looking for a Director of Programs to  JYCA’s innovative youth social justice programs with our current Director of Programs. We will have two Directors of Programs who will share the responsibility of JYCA’s program work together. One of the key responsibilities of this position will be to vision and direct our new Jews Against Marginalization program, a cohort for Jewish youth of color and Sephardi and Mizrahi youth.

This position is an opportunity for you to vision, grow, and run JYCA’s youth and public programs in deep collaboration with JYCA staff and youth. You will be responsible for strengthening our current programs while also dreaming up and creating new offerings. 

In collaboration with our current Director of Programs, these are your core job responsibilities:

  • Create peer-led curriculum that deepens youth self-awareness and structural analysis
  • Support/train youth leaders to facilitate all of JYCA’s popular education programming
  • Develop political partnerships for campaigns and coalition work and partnerships with other Jewish and youth organizations 
  • Outreach to and recruit youth to participate in all of JYCA’s programs 
  • Travel regularly to San Francisco and the Peninsula to fulfill work duties
  • Fundraise for the programs by supporting grant applications, meeting with funders, writing op-eds, and presenting at networking events
  • Network extensively, representing JYCA in various environments
  • Adapt JYCA’s existing program model to new communities through stakeholder engagement, experimentation with programming, and assessment 
  • Collaborate with the program staff, development and admin teams at JYCA
  • Offer one on one mentorship and support to youth participants  
  • Do administrative tasks related to the program

Priority Skills and Experiences:

  • Deeply committed to social, racial, economic, and gender justice 
  • Skilled in facilitating workshops, meetings and group decision-making
  • Have started a program from scratch and feel comfortable doing so 
  • Experience organizing or running programming with Jews of Color and Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews
  • Comfortable making program pivots to respond to political moments or community needs
  • Experienced in curriculum development and implementation 
  • Skilled in project management and time management across multiple teams and projects
  • Committed to building the power of youth and enjoys working with teens
  • You do not need to be an expert in Jewish ritual to hold this position. What is required is familiarity with Jewish culture and/or a willingness to learn how to lead songs and ritual
  • Ability to motivate youth to develop their own political campaigns 
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders including funders, organizers, parents, board members, and teens; Comfort navigating a variety of professional settings, including some that may not feel like your “own”

BONUS Skills And Experience:

  • Experience working with teens
  • Deep knowledge of Jewish ritual and history
  • Networks in the Peninsula community, especially the teen landscape
  • Experience using and adapting various project management systems  
  • Knowledge and experience facilitating different learning styles and using various pedagogies and modalities (theater of the oppressed, arts-based activism, etc.)
