The Development Manager, based out of the JDRF New York City/Long Island Chapter office in Melville, plays an important role within the NYC/Long Island Chapter, manages key fundraising projects, and engages and leads volunteers and constituents to drive JDRF success.
The Development Manager will organize, coordinate, implement and expand JDRF’s signature events and donor development fundraising programs. We seek a person interested in and passionate about being the lead staff person for JDRF’s gala and golf events on Long Island, as well as being interested in expanding donor engagement and stewardship efforts.
Coordinate strategic planning with other Chapter leaders to ensure that the fundraising and development priorities of JDRF are consistent across the territory. Build and strengthen links to new and existing volunteers, donors and corporate partners to significantly increase revenue. Understand the Foundation, Divisional, Regional and Chapter activities, operations, policies, and procedures to perform all duties and achieve goals and objectives.
Within the scope of the job you will have the opportunity to continue to learn and apply all aspects of non-profit including stewardship, budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning. This position will work from the Long Island office but may require travel within the five boroughs as well as for meetings, programs and events.
Maximize revenue and achieve fundraising goals through the active recruitment and stewardship of family, corporate, foundation and individual support for signature events (golf, gala, etc.) across Long Island with additional opportunities for supporting chapter events and fundraising initiatives in New York City.
Recruit and manage key committees to improve impact. Create and implement strategic communications and fundraising plans for event Chairs, Committees, honorees.
Ability to coordinate vendors, contracts, and solicit in-kind donations.
Help plan and support event logistics and guest experience.
Must be a team player that has the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers and maintain relationships.
Maintain steady communication with donors and be the lead staff member driving improved stewardship, retention and recruitment of donors and constituents.
Identify potential high level donors.
Attend and support local JDRF fundraising events.
Ensure accurate recording of information in database, file system, and/or records. Create, update, and revise as needed. Developing and preparing presentations, reports, and business correspondence.
Effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast paced environment.
Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure. Represent the best interests, professionalism and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the JDRF mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership.
Maintain a basic understanding of JDRF’s mission and research portfolio and priorities. Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and senior management.
College degree preferred.
Five to sevent years of not-for-profit required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior fundraising experience required.
Knowledge of fundraising, event planning (gala/golf/donor engagement experience preferred), volunteer recruitment, ability to develop and enhance relationships.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Proficiency with computer programs is required. Must have the ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
Ability to travel locally required (includes travel within five boroughs and Long Island). Evening and weekend work required as needed.
