Position Summary

Urban Alliance (UA) is searching for an Executive Director to lead UA’s local operations in Baltimore. The Baltimore Executive Director will be responsible for implementing local strategic growth initiatives and overseeing program management by securing corporate partnerships; cultivating community-wide relationships with foundations, schools, and other stakeholders; and ensuring that all Baltimore programs are meeting their goals and metrics. A successful candidate will have a strong record of relationship building and fundraising experience in the Baltimore, MD area, and at least two years of program and team management experience. This position will report directly to UA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

For more than 25 years, Urban Alliance has provided thousands of economically-disadvantaged youth with the skills, social capital, and career exposure needed to overcome systemic barriers to equal employment and educational opportunities. Urban Alliance’s programming serves as a bridge between young people, employers, and schools by providing high school students with comprehensive soft skills and digital literacy training, paid internships with local employers, individualized mentoring, case management, and ongoing post-high school planning support. Urban Alliance is one of the few youth workforce development organizations to have its impact proven by a six-year randomized controlled trial and has been recognized as a leader in the field by the book Moneyball for Government, as well as the Chronicle of Philanthropy, NPR, Forbes, the Urban Institute, and the Obama Foundation.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Relationship Management

  • Effectively communicate how UA’s mission addresses the needs of students served, the local community, school partners, and employer partners to grow its regional footprint 
  • Develop and implement regional sales and fundraising plans to secure and grow revenue-generating partnerships 
  • Collaborate with the National Development Team to solicit and secure grants from regional philanthropic organizations
  • Ensure accurate tracking of the sales pipeline via Salesforce
  • Represent the organization externally by participating in public speaking engagements, maintaining a robust social media presence, and regularly participating in or attending community events 
  • Maintain large regional partnerships with key stakeholders, including employer partners hosting UA intern cohorts  
  • Serve as a thought partner to youth workforce development peers in the field and collaborate with the National team on high-visibility publications and events 


Program Management

  • Lead a growing regional team by directly supervising the regional Program Director and Alumni Director to ensure programmatic delivery meets key deliverables and evaluation targets 
  • Cultivate and maintain high-level school district relationship by collaborating with the Director of Human Capital and Operations to negotiate the terms of related agreements 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Development Officer to establish annual budgets, and track and project expenses

Team Management

  • Manage Program and Alumni directors and ensure all staff meet goals for the region
  • Facilitate strong working dynamics between the National and Baltimore teams 
  • Provide professional development for members of the Baltimore team
  • Promote strong organizational health and culture throughout the region


Qualifications & Keys to Success

  • Professional experience: the ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of leadership experience in the youth, education, or workforce development field with a strong track record of developing and implementing strategic, innovative, and data-driven programming. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively across a diverse portfolio of programs and a history of problem-solving complex issues by bridging the gap between strategy and implementation.
  • Leadership: the ideal candidate will be a thoughtful, collaborative, and empowering leader with strong management qualities and demonstrated success in building, leading, and retaining diverse teams. The candidate will be committed to building staff capacity and elevating the work of their team. The ideal candidate will also have experience and comfortability managing a geographically disparate or remote team.
  • Communication: the ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and possess strong writing and speaking skills. The candidate will leverage their strong interpersonal skills to connect with diverse stakeholders, including youth and their families, staff, business leaders, volunteers, senior government officials, community leaders, and funders. The ideal candidate will enjoy public speaking and will advocate on important youth workforce development issues.

Salary

$85,000 - $100,000

Benefits

Compensation and Benefit Package:

The salary range for this position is $85,000- $100,000. At Urban Alliance we offer 18 days of paid time off, 10 paid federal holidays, as well as a birthday and diversity paid holiday. Our benefits include a comprehensive health plan with 90% individual healthcare coverage, 403(B) retirement plans with a 3% match, whole life insurance and pre-tax commuter benefits. We offer working remotely up to two days per week.
