YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT 

The mission of the Mindfulness program is to provide volunteer-facilitated Mindfulness instruction to SFUSD students using a pre-developed curriculum of storytelling as well as visual and performing arts activities. Volunteers help students learn focusing techniques to cultivate the skill of present-moment awareness to improve attention, self-regulation and social and emotional learning so that all students can have the opportunity to thrive. THE ROLE 

This is a part-time, hourly position. It is grant-supported for one year, with the possibility of extending longer depending on continued funding. The Mindfulness Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the program in all capacities except leading training sessions for new Mindfulness volunteers. These capacities include: volunteer recruitment, management and retention; performing daily and ongoing tasks necessary to maintain the existing program; and building the program through targeted volunteer recruitment to service more elementary schools in the San Francisco Unified School District. The Program Coordinator will work directly with San Francisco Education Fund staff as well as with the founder of the Mindful Arts program to achieve these goals. The Mindfulness Program Coordinator has full responsibility for ensuring the growth of this essential program the Education Fund is bringing to local schools. These tasks will most likely be performed virtually for at least the Fall semester of the 2021-2022 school year. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Mindfulness Program Coordinator will be the lead staff person for the following tasks: 

  • Recruit mindfulness volunteers 
  • Check in with mindfulness volunteers on a regular basis 
  • Work with teachers and school staff to secure and arrange classroom placements for Mindfulness volunteers 
  • Data entry of classroom placement and contact information for each volunteer in Salesforce database 
  • Work with the Education Fund’s Director of Talent and Operations to push out all recruiting and supplemental training announcements 
  • Provide mindfulness stories for social media 
  • Schedule regular check-ins with Senior Coordinator for Volunteer Engagement and with Mindfulness program founder 
  • Attend monthly staff meetings 

Other Duties as Assigned  

  • Non-essential job duties and/or non-related tasks may be assigned from time to time.  The Education  
  • Fund is a small non-profit agency requiring flexibility from its staff 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years equivalent work experience 
  • Passion for Mindfulness and the positive effect it can have on young students 
  • Prior Volunteer Management experience 
  • Commitment to improving public education through community involvement 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, primarily teachers, school staff, and volunteers 
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to handle multiple deadlines and competing priorities with demonstrated results 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills 
  • Service-oriented mentality with client-first approach 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Action-oriented with creative problem-solving abilities 
  • Prior experience using Salesforce database 
  • High comfort level with technology and social media 
  • Fluency in online meeting and training platforms such as Zoom and YouTube 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Must pass criminal background check 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Significant background and regular practice in mindfulness and meditation 
  • Prior experience working in an elementary school setting or youth-focused non-profit
