College Track is a comprehensive college completion program that empowers students from underserved communities to graduate from college. From ninth grade through college graduation, our 10-year program removes the academic, financial, and social-emotional barriers that prevent low-income and first-generation students from earning their college degree. In 1997, we started with 25 students in East Palo Alto, and today, we have ten centers located in underserved communities across California, Colorado, Louisiana, and the D.C. Metro Area with more than 3,000 students on the path to upward social mobility.

Reporting to the Chief Finance and Operating Officer, the Director of Strategic Initiatives will work across the organization to improve communications, business processes and organizational planning in support of College Track's mission. Specifically, this role will own the organization's annual planning and business planning processes to ensure the organization is well positioned to achieve its 2024 vision. In addition, the Director of Strategic Initiatives is responsible for managing the Board and Communications Manager.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Annual Planning Process Design and Execution
Lead the organization's annual planning process to create a set of organization-wide priorities that are backwards mapped from goals and priorities of our multi-year plan that will ensure that we achieve our stated outcomes.
Identify opportunities, informed by feedback and research - to inform improvements to the annual and multi-year planning processes.
Design a process for and lead multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams from across the organization to developing high quality strategic plans aligned to our organizational goals.
Monitoring Execution of Annual/Multi-year Plan
Review, revise and maintain systems for monitoring progress of the current year's organization-wide priorities including development of benchmarks, quarterly analysis of progress toward objectives, and presentation of plan to leadership teams and other stakeholders.
Engage a broad group of stakeholders, including those most directly impacted by the project, in post-project reflection to capture key learnings and best practices to create a knowledge base that can be leveraged by project managers.
Develop and deliver an approach for how project managers for org-wide projects will:
Identify, develop, pilot, and implement new tools and technologies that can further support organization wide project management
Partner and develop strong working relationships across the organization with project managers and staff to support execution of key initiatives.
Support the development of College Track's 2024 Business Plan to accomplish the following:
Support the planning, materials production, and facilitation of conversations with staff at all levels across the organization.
Oversee the design and execution of the strategy for internal organization wide communications, including as it relates to organization-wide priorities emerging from the annual planning process, newsletters, all staff meetings, etc.
Oversee the development and maintenance of the organization's annual calendar.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 4-year college degree
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a strategic, operational and/or consulting role.
Minimum of 1-3 years supervising experience.
Results-driven; commitment to utilizing data to take informed action
Be a proactive self-starter with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability; feels comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with limited direction
Outstanding problem solver with an independent and entrepreneurial spirit and ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Demonstrated success with cross-functional teams
Can be an empathetic communicator and "client-centric" team player
Be diligent, organized, detail-oriented, and masterful at time management while being thoughtful and strategic
Feel comfortable bringing projects from initial conception through completion - everything from high level strategy down to making detail-oriented PowerPoint slides, and coordinating logistics
Strong learning orientation (e.g. constant learner, exhibits strong self-awareness of and initiative to develop one's growth areas, accepts and promptly incorporates feedback)
Desire to take the lead in creating an organizational culture of sustainability and excellence
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively build/maintain working partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
