ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is seeking a Recruitment and People Officer that will manage various tasks related to the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and employee lifecycle of headquarters employees. This is a key position on a dynamic team of Human Resources, People & Culture (HRPC) professionals supporting a global non-profit organization. Our ideal candidate has experience working in the Human Resources field, with a focus on hiring and recruitment and compensation and salary planning, preferably in a non-profit environment. This position will also support other projects within the larger HRPC team, including employee onboarding, initiatives related to our Belonging, Dignity and Justice work, developing organizational compensation structures and employee engagement.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office or partially remote (2-3 days per week in office/ 2-3 days remote). The HRPC team is spread across the US and the UK. This position is based in the Washington, DC metro area, and is expected to work on a partially remote basis.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Leads on tasks related to headquarters (HQ) staff recruitment, negotiation, hiring and onboarding;
  • Supports organizational recruitment strategy, staying abreast of market trends and making recommendations;
  • Supports Internews’ requirements under Affirmative Action as related to recruitment and hiring;
  • Provides guidance and review of job descriptions to ensure consistency within organizational position level and compliance with best practices;
  • Ensures hiring and promotions are consistent within Internews’ compensation structure;
  • Manages reference checks, vetting and background screening processes are followed for all HQ hires as needed;
  • Supports Key Personnel submissions to funder and ensures all Key Personnel staff have approval on file;
  • Develops and maintains processes related to staff hiring and employment lifecycle changes within the Applicant Tracking System / HRIS;
  • Tracks quarterly Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and Onboarding system updates, ensuring that Internews’ system is optimized and communicates any relevant changes with system users;
  • Recommends and coordinates relationships with outside recruitment agencies and services and recruitment sources;
  • Provides regular metrics related to recruitment and hiring. Analyzes data and distributes to Senior Staff with possible recommendations for strategy changes;
  • Advises program teams on recruitment and negotiation strategies;
  • Participates in project start-up and close-out processes, tracking HR items and providing guidance to project teams as needed;
  • Reviews, analyzes and processes employment lifecycle requests for HQ staff members, making updates to the ERP/HRIS system related to employee entry, exit, and related changes as needed;
  • Ensures all staff employee changes that impact payroll are communicated effectively and in a timely manner;
  • Manages the employee exit process;
  • Liaises with staff in regional and local country offices as needed to process international staff hires;
  • Manages the immigration and visa petition processes for domestic staff as requested;
  • Develops and maintains information and guidance on the internal website regarding hiring practices and policies;
  • Conducts trainings for hiring managers;
  • Represents Internews at job fairs or other recruitment-focused events in the DC metro area as requested;
  • Responds to HR-help ticketing system issues as assigned;
  • Other duties as assigned;

QUALIFICATIONS WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Experience supporting recruitment, hiring and employee lifecycle functions
  • Strong understanding of various HRIS systems, preferably an ERP database
  • Experience working with Applicant Tracking Systems, preferably Taleo or Sage People
  • Experience with compensation planning and structures
  • Organized, logical, detail-oriented
  • Ability to take direction, work independently, complete tasks on time
  • Proven ability handling confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Experience working in collaborative team environment
  • Strong writing and grammar skills, strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong grasp of Microsoft Windows environment including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer
  • Professional level fluency in English

  • PHR/SPHR certification or equivalent professional HR certification
  • Experience with international hiring
  • Experience working at a global NGO
  • Familiarity with government contracts requirements related to personnel engagement
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Additional language skills

Anticipated salary for this position: $70,000 - $75,000
