Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Senior Communications & Outreach Officer, the Programs Manager has primary responsibility for outreach and engagement programs and activities that help identify new partners, increase public awareness of the three parks, and build towards a more diverse and inclusive organization. The Programs Manager will work with the Senior Communications & Outreach Officer and the Advancement & External Affairs team to develop annual programs and an outreach calendar to meet organizational goals. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Programs 

  • Manage the coordination and execution of a portfolio of programs and events including, but not limited to: 
  • Tours and educational programs 
  • Making History on the Common 
  • Brewer Plaza summer series 
  • Skating with Friends 
  • Monument & Memory programs  
  • Work with Senior Communications & Outreach Officer to produce signature Duckling Day programming 
  • Work with Senior Communications & Outreach Officer to identify new opportunities for FOPG programs 
  • Support outside organizations looking to partner with FOPG to bring diverse programs to the three parks 


Communications 

  • Manage the design and production of marketing and promotional materials to support outreach efforts, coordinating with the Creative Manager, as needed 
  • Contribute to publications, as directed 
  • Provide media relations support to Senior Communications & Outreach Officer, including management of the media database 
  • Establish and monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the effectiveness of current programming and new initiatives 


Digital marketing 

  • Assist and coordinate with the Creative Manager and other staff members to generate compelling content in support of FOPG programs 
  • Create emails and other digital marketing in support of programs 
  • Assist with updates of the Friends’ social channels and website to engage internal and external communities, as needed 
  •  Outreach 
  • Research opportunities for partnerships within targeted communities, and coordinate and manage Community Partner database   
  • Support community outreach for Lee Fund, Holiday Lights, and other programs 
  • And other duties, as assigned. 


Key Qualifications 

A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience is required.  Ideal candidates will have:  

  • Strong organization and project management skills 
  • Ability to work and solve problems independently 
  • Strong verbal and written skills 
  • Skill and experience in the use of various social networking tools  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, WordPress, and HTML is required. Skill with Adobe Creative Suite applications, Word Press, and CMS systems is desirable.  
  • Experience working in diverse communities 
  • Willingness to engage with residents and neighborhood representatives 
  • An interest in nonprofits and the mission and programs of the Friends. 
  • Experience working with public and private sector agencies is a plus   


The Friends is a hybrid work environment, with staff in the office three days a week. When needed, in-person work will be required during nights, weekends, and normally remote days to fulfill this role.
