The Social Media Specialist will be integral in developing the branding and voice of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and its publishing arm, Catholic Review Media, through social media platforms including (but not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. The SMS will engage our online and social media audiences as well as build and maintain relationships with key influencers. As part of the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s social media strategy, the SMS will track and provide reports regarding social media impact and growth. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for social media and a track record for innovation and creative thinking. Knowledge of the Baltimore area and the Catholic Church is a plus. Must be flexible. Working on-site at our downtown Baltimore office will be required, but this position will involve working some nights and weekends to meet our seven-day delivery schedule (night and weekend work can be done from home).

Essential duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):


  • Use social media to connect our audience to content and engage in conversation
  • Moderate forums and chats; initiate conversations as appropriate
  • Manage content across all social media platforms
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key social media audiences, i.e. bloggers, influencers, online media
  • Implement initiatives that grow audience; track and report results and ROI
  • Generate ideas and contribute to weekly editorial meeting


  • Assist Web editor in uploading content
  • Conduct interviews and produce online articles as needed
  • Shoot and edit video of Archdiocese of Baltimore events and stories for CRMedia (in iMovie or other app) for use on our YouTube channel
  • Train and advise Catholic Review Media staff and other appropriate archdiocesan personnel on social media
  • Share expertise on social media with parishes, schools and other organizations via seminars or webinars
  • Coordinate and implement social media marketing projects
  • Coordinate social media advertising and sponsors with Sales Team

Required education and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Professional experience with current social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc) and trends
  • 2 years of journalism experience (reporting and/or blogging) required
  • Working knowledge of social analytics required
  • Marketing experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of web production preferred
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church and its liturgy preferred.

Relevant experience in social media or other forms of community engagement may be substituted for a degree

  • Excellent writing skills and verbal communication skills required with the ability to take direction and feedback constructively
  • Work discreetly in worship spaces while prioritizing work and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality
