Position Summary:

The School Age Education Specialist supports the implementation of appropriate and effective academic programs for members ages 6 to 12. S/he assists the Education Director and/or School Age Education Coordinator in the delivery of academic programming. Major responsibility is to support the implementation of developmentally appropriate literacy, STEM, and homework help programming. This is done through high yield and targeted programs.

Required Skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement year round education programs, activities, and events as directed by Education Director and/or School Age Education Coordinator that adhere to the Common Core State Standards, 21st Century Skills, BGCB Ed Standards, and BGCB Education practices as directed by the supervisor
  • Coordinate an academic incentive system for the school age education department
  • Facilitate targeted STEM and/or Literacy programming
  • Support Club level School Age Education Department goals, which adhere to BGCB academic program activity standards as determined each year by Club leadership, Club Education Team, BGCB Education Team, and Director of Academic Success.
  • Supervision and discipline of club members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as appropriate.
  • Implement and participate in collaborative programs and events with BGCB Education staff and Program Partners
  • Actively participate in BGCB Formula for Impact: Academic Success Initiatives. Which include collaborative team projects and program support from the Director of Academic Success. As well as participate in on – going professional development (trainings, 1 to 1 coaching sessions, observations, and supervision) from the Director of Academic Success.
  • Maintain a high level of professional communication both internally and externally
  • Maintain knowledge or trends in education–specific programming, career exploration, professional development, and curriculum design
  • Maintain a safe, clean, effective, and academically enriching environment.
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Work Demands)

  • High school degree or GED required
  • Direct experience providing education and/or academic support programs for youth
  • Knowledge of youth development principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • MS Office and web competency preferred.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license preferred.
