The mission of Apex for Youth is to deliver possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-­income families in NYC. Apex serves students from pre-K to 12th grade in New York City through educational, after-school, athletic, and middle school/high school mentoring programs.

We provide youth/teens with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors, tutors, and coaches. Ultimately, Apex for Youth aims to nurture youth/teens who will be confident, college and career-ready individuals who are actively engaged in their community.

Job Overview

Apex’s Elementary Programs addresses the educational, physical, and social-emotional needs of elementary students through athletics, small group tutoring, enrichment, and emotional support programs run by caring adult volunteers. Elementary sessions take place on Saturdays from October - June. Elementary also offers summer programming to its participants during July - August.

The Programs Manager will report to the Associate Director of Elementary Programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in working with elementary aged youth, excellent program management skills, and experience designing and leading programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead all aspects of elementary programming including program design, curriculum development, and supervision of program volunteers for the programs in Manhattan in collaboration with other Program Managers;
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with partner schools and organizations;
  • Provide supervision and ongoing support for Program Coordinator;
  • Oversee the recruitment, intake and training process for volunteers to ensure quality interactions between volunteers and youth with the support of the Elementary program managers. Provide weekly on-site supervision and support at all scheduled Saturday sessions;
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers and students to monitor students’ performance, progress, and achievement of goals.
  • Assist with event-planning for in-person events, which includes the annual holiday party, for the elementary program participants with support of program managers;
  • Collaborate with Social Work department for mental health support for elementary youth;
  • Collect and analyze program data with support of program managers and Data Analyst;
  • Attend all program and team meetings, as necessary.
  • Assist with Apex organizational events and initiatives, as necessary.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS required;
  • 2-3 years experience working with youth in a management role preferred;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships;
  • Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude;
  • Proactive nature and self starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;
  • Enjoys working closely with a team, as well as independently;
  • Ability to work on Saturdays, and take Sunday-Monday as the weekend

Paid Time Off: In the first year of employment, you will be eligible for 10 vacation days and 12 paid federal holidays observed by Apex for Youth. Additionally, Apex closes for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July. You are also entitled to 5 sick days per year and 3 personal days a year. Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
