The president, with the help of congress, wants to take us back to a time before the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act. This trajectory is about to change. Election season is here and we are going to take back State Houses, The US Senate and House and put a stop to the president’s anti-environment agenda. Clean Water Action is looking for Assistant Canvass Directors to help run the resistance movement.

Clean Water Action is a million member strong non-profit fighting to protect our environment and public health and the backbone of our organization is the canvass. We’re looking for people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and join the fight in what’s sure to be a decisive year at a pivotal point in our history.

Assistant Canvass Directors help manage our 8 grassroots field offices across the country.

Job Responsibilities:

Recruitment: Help build a team of 10-15 canvassers by recruiting from within the local community. Interview prospective staff and make hiring decisions.


Staff Management: Teach canvassing/fundraising skills. Work with staff in individual and group settings. Develop leaders. Cultivate a welcoming and motivating atmosphere.


Canvassing: Canvass in the field to train new and experienced staff and meet personal fundraising requirements

Administration: Carefully track income, calls to action, and voter contacts. Maintain records for future organizing efforts.

·        Previous field or canvassing experience is a plus, and may qualify candidates for additional leadership positions



Newly hired assistant directors will typically spend four to six months doing field training, working intensely alongside experienced directors. Additionally, assistant directors receive support from regional management staff throughout their time on staff. 

After one year in the position, staff will have learned the basics of running a successful grassroots campaign, including, but not limited to, fundraising and donor recruitment, hiring and supervising staff and/or volunteers, and turf management.



Work schedule can run 40-50 hours per week, including work on some weekends.
