Our students, who include high functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, will acquire the academic skills that they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools, and will exhibit the social and emotional skills that will allow them to reach their full potential. 

Job Summary:

The ELL teacher will work directly with students identified as ELL students across K-8 (the school is currently a K-3 and will grow to be a K-8) through utilizing push-in and pull-out services. The ELL teacher will also be responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers and leaders around best instructional practices to support our ELL population. This teacher will be responsible for administering testing and data collection for our ELL scholars. This teacher will need to be organized, flexible, and innovative as this is the first year the position exists within our school structure. This teacher will assist with ensuring that we create a successful program to adequately serve the ELL population within our school. 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and plan with teachers around push-in and pull-out small-group instruction for English Language Learners in grades K-3 (Growing to K-8).
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support students through a variety of strategies, including pushing into classrooms and pull-out services.
  •  Collect, analyze, and utilize data alongside teachers to inform ongoing instruction. 
  •  Facilitate parent meetings on services and strategies to support their children’s learning.
  • Assist with administering NYSITELL and NYSESLAT assessments and utilize the data to inform curriculum development and classroom instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with city and state ELL mandates.
  •  Work collaboratively with teachers on best ways to differentiate and accommodate ELL students based on data from assessments and sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Special Populations to ensure that student needs are being met. 
  • Create a comprehensive services schedule that reflects all students needing services, as well as frequency of services.
  • Advocate for our ELL students and families to ensure equity across all school systems and structures within the school.

  • Strong knowledge of best practices for students with disabilities, specifically students with ASD (Preferred) 
  • Past work in an urban setting 
  • Bilingual
  • TESOL certification (or close) strongly preferred
  • Certification in at least one of the following: New York State Elementary, Special Education, eligible out of state certification, or TESOL certification.
