Brief Description of the Position:

The Director of Development leads fundraising strategies and initiatives, and works closely with the Board and staff to achieve the Organization’s fundraising objectives and ensure that day-to-day fundraising activities are completed.

About One Earth Collective:

One Earth Collective, a community-based organization founded in the Oak Park and River Forest area, focuses its work in three areas – the One Earth Film Festival, an environmental leader in the Chicago region, One Earth Youth Voices, which runs the Young Filmmakers Contest and other youth-focused programs, and One Earth Local (a/k/a Green Community Connections), which works collaboratively to build a resilient, environmentally sustainable community.  Our mission is to harness the power of people through vibrant environmental programming that inspires action, facilitates learning, promotes justice, and fosters equity and inclusion to create resilient communities and a healthier planet.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Develop and maintain annual fundraising plan and calendar to meet target goals by source (e.g., sponsorships, grants, individual donations, memberships, and events).

2. Research and identification of new and expanded funding sources and opportunities, including new members, individual donors, and sponsors, and grantors. 

3. Cultivate, solicit and steward a donor portfolio, including virtual and in-person meetings and written communications with current and potential donors, grantors, and sponsors.

4. Liaise with a contracted grant-writer to manage the annual grant calendar, review grant applications and reports, and submit reports and applications on deadline. 

5. Prepare and administer sponsorship proposals, invoices and written acknowledgement of cash and in-kind donations.

6. Design and implement annual sponsorship, membership and donor campaigns, (i.e., Giving Tuesday) and benefits, including social media and donor acknowledgement.

7. Maintain shared calendar (Google) and project management tools, with responsibility for meeting application and reporting deadlines.

8. Maintain database (DonorSnap) of existing and prospective donors, sponsors and funders, with gift tracking and reporting. 

9. Work with marketing personnel to create impactful print and electronic communications.

10. Design and direct sponsor and donor recognition and appreciation programs and events, coordinating with Marketing and others to ensure sponsor and donor benefits delivery.

11. Provide creative, strategic input to fundraising events planning.

12. Report to board and staff regularly with status updates. 

Qualifications and Skills

   Fundraising:

● 3+ years in nonprofit fundraising.

● Experience working with businesses and individual donors. 

● Ability to initiate, foster and grow relationships with individuals and organizations.

● Experience implementing fundraising drives and membership programs.

   Leadership: 

● High level of professionalism and dedication.

● Ability to envision, plan and execute activities that will further the mission of the organization.

● Ability to recruit, engage and appreciate volunteers and staff. 

   Management:

● Supervisory experience is helpful. 

● Ability to work effectively with a broad demographic of people, and a range of groups from corporate to grassroots. 

● Strong organizational skills. 

● Strong attention to detail.

● Excellent time-management skills, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing deadlines. 

  Additional Skills

● Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

● Competency handling sensitive and/or confidential information.

● Self-starter able to work independently.

● Experience with donor database use and management. 

● Comfortable learning and using software applications and online technology. 

● Experience with basic level of graphic design is a plus.

Salary

$50,000 annual; part-time, average 30 hours per week. Combination of remote and onsite hours. Must be available for meetings on a weekly basis, as well as occasional evening and weekend meetings or events.
