We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Director – Development.

Position Summary:

 

The Senior Director of Development is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to attract funding for the Medical Centers work in a specified clinical area from individual donors and prospects at the major gifts level (six and seven-figure gifts). The Senior Director also helps to identify opportunities for unrestricted support for the Medical Center.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Usage of Advance donor database, keeping all Advance data updated and complete, and knowledge of Fundraising Guidelines applicable to position duties.
  • Works with Directors, physicians, and administrators of the assigned department to identify, cultivate, solicit, close gifts and steward donors and prospects with wealth capacity.
  • Participates in one-on-one cultivations and solicitations.
  • Prepares letters of inquiry and proposals to prospects and donors on behalf of Medical Center faculty members.
  • Researches and writes briefings to prepare Medical Center officers (Dean, Vice Dean, Dr. Vice President, Department Chair) to ensure effective meetings with major donors.
  • Works collaboratively with the Corporate and Foundation Officers to secure organizational support.
  • Staffs the Advisory Board.
  • Works with the Administrator of the department to schedule the quarterly meetings for the Advisory Board, in coordination with the Chair of the Advisory Board and Board of Trustees.
  • Handles communications for the board meetings and prepares all the necessary materials, including agendas, minutes and workbooks.
  • Works closely with board members and physicians to develop event opportunities for cultivating and stewarding major donors and identifying new prospects.
  • Coordinates with the prospect research team to identify new major donor prospects from the patient database.
  • Reviews listings of current donors from the database who have previously given to the areas of responsibility and develop individual strategies to solicit them for new gifts.
  • Documents all development activity related to gift solicitations and donor and prospect stewardship and general information in the donor/prospect database.
  • Works collaboratively with members of the Leadership and Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Special Events, Strategy and Foundation Relations, Direct Response, Prospect Research and Operations teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred.
  • 10-15 years of fundraising experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts, preferably at an academic medical center.
  • Successful track record in raising major gifts at the six through eight-figure level.
  • Experience with board development and management.
  • Must possess curiosity, innovativeness, drive and acumen to seek and grow opportunities.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project professional competence, leadership capability, and personal integrity/maturity.
  • Independent, strategic thinker with good judgment, sensitivity and common sense.
  • Excellent organizational, diplomatic, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated, outgoing and results oriented.
  • Development database experience.
