Weatherization Field Technician

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Install weatherization materials, as directed by the Crew Chief, Weatherization Director or their designee, listed in the scope-of-work (ABWS).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 


Insulation

  • Attics, walls, pipes, floors, ducts, water heaters, blown cellulose, fiberglass, rigid foam board, etc.

Sealant, Materials

  • Caulking, weather-stripping, plastic wrapped fiberglass, carpentry, metal flashing, expanding foam, etc.

Ventilation

  • Exterior (attics and crawl spaces) and Interior (baths and kitchens) as appropriate.

Miscellaneous

  • Installing LED light bulbs, assist with refrigerator installations (as needed), add/replace window glass, window/door repairs, install water flow restrictors, change air/steam valves, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, etc.

As Needed

  • Assist other NMIC departments on an as-needed basis as directed by the Executive Director, Weatherization Director or their designee.  
  • Attend mandatory weatherization trainings.  
  • Assist the Crew Chief with post inspections on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist the Energy Auditor with data collection on an as-needed basis.


Housing Repairs and Health/Safety Training

  • Obtain approval from Crew Chief or Weatherization Director for any major changes in scope of work. 
  • Report any health and safety issues on ESP form #15 and submits daily.
  • Document any deviation from the scope of work (i.e. any changes of plan, additional work performed, or specific reasons for changes.
  • Perform Health and Safety Carbon Monoxide tests in each apartment/house served.
  • Assist in Post-blower door test and recording of data.
  • Load or unload weatherization van with all the materials and equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining tool belts and equipment issued.
  • Report to Crew Chief and/or Weatherization Director.


Qualifications 

  • Ability to work in areas associated with high elevation (ladders and roof-tops) and in confined, possibly dirty spaces.
  • Knowledge of heavy-duty tools and ability to work with highly technical equipment (i.e. blower door, combustion test equipment, digital/analog manometer).
  • Ability to work beyond a written set of instructions and be proactive.
  • Understand overall weatherization techniques, home safety issues, and energy conservation concepts.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work without constant supervision.
  • Basic math skills necessary to make technical calculations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain client relations as a representative of NMIC.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Carpentry skills, valid driver’s license, knowledge of heating systems, boilers and computer skills preferred.
