About Cycles of Change’s Bike Safety Program

The Safety / Drive Your Bike program trains students in cycling basics and street safety best practices. Partnering with PE teachers in public schools across Alameda County, we run the 3-day DYB curriculum for middle and high school students, and single-day “bike rodeo” events for elementary level students. The goal of this program, in conjunction with other programs, is to increase access to bikes, increase bike ridership, and encourage mode shift.

About The Position:

Cycles of Change seeks a self-directed, flexible, highly organized individual with good communication skills to co-coordinate and implement our safety programs. Co-coordinator will be working alongside another coordinator to teach and coordinate the Bike Safety Education Program in Alameda County.


The Co-coordinator’s time will be divided between the following:

  • 40% scheduling, training, observing, and managing educator staff
  • 20% day-of troubleshooting for programs
  • 20% curriculum development and maintenance
  • 20% admin and operations


Required Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of program coordination / management, administrative experience
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Asana, and Slack
  • 2-5 years experience working with diverse staff, students, and volunteers
  • Flexible, able to adjust on the fly to accommodate deadlines, staffing issues and program needs
  • Self motivated, works well independently (and collaboratively)
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback 
  • The physical ability to lift 40 lbs, ride 10-12 miles, and teach outdoors for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to drive a 26’ truck


Desired Qualifications: 

  • 1+ years of experience leading outdoor activities, preferably on bikes
  • A solid understanding and practice of bicycle commuting, safety, and maintenance
  • Experience in classroom teaching and management
  • Graphic design 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience with fundraising, human resources, or finance
  • Experience with collectively run projects and process

 

Job Responsibilities


For this co-coordinator role, you will be primarily responsible for the following - please note, these are the core duties of the position, not an exhaustive list:


Staff Management: 

  • Recruit and train staff and volunteers as needed to assist with education and fleet maintenance
  • Schedule staff for programming, communicate relevant information to staff 
  • Maintain a high level of communication with co-coordinator and program staff, serve as main point of contact

 

Administration:

  • Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including but not limited to attendance sheets, timecards, and incident reports
  • Attend mandatory Cycles of Change meetings, trainings, and events
  • Organize all electronic documents in relevant folders on Google Drive

 

Curriculum and Program Development

  • Revise program descriptions, curricula, evaluation tools, and outreach materials as needed
  • Adapt program curricula to fit varying environments and meet age appropriate learning outcomes
  • Collect program evaluations from all sites and meet to improve program based on evaluations

  

Organizational Commitment:

  • Become a Staff Collective member at Cycles of Change
  • Commitment to participating on an Administrative committee and completing tasks for that committee for at least 6 hours/month
  • Attend twice a month Staff Collective meetings


This position description is not a written or an implied contract. It will be reviewed periodically and may be revised if deemed necessary. This position has supervisory relationship over children and other staff. Performance reviews will be conducted annually.

 

Compensation and Benefits

The exact number of hours per week may vary, and hours fluctuate based on the academic school year. The position is expected to be 20-30 hours of coordination work each week, though additional hours may be available in administrative committees. The starting rate for program coordinators is $23.25/hr after a 3-month preliminary period. Compensation includes health insurance, optional dental, 3.33% accrued sick time, and 1.93% accrued vacation time.
