Owned by the City of New York, the High Line is a public park maintained, operated, and programmed by Friends of the High Line, in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, to shape and implement an innovative and strategic cultural, public, and community engagement vision and program that advances the High Line’s mission and helps drive the organization to new levels of creativity, visibility, interaction, and impact. With a visitorship of nearly 8 million people annually, the High Line is an essential public space for the residents of New York as well as a community asset and partner for our neighborhood.


Friends of the High Line is seeking a creative and innovative Content Manager to join our Communications team. The Content Manager will work closely across departments to draft copy and review internal and external materials. These departments include, but are not limited to: Advancement, Programming, High Line Art, Horticulture, Operations, and Planning and Design.

This is a full-time, year-round position and is supported by the Vice President of Communications.


  • Writing, editing, researching, proofreading and fact checking printed and digital content, including but not limited to: publications (e.g. newsletters, board reports, and year end reports), marketing materials (e.g. direct mail, email, and letters), event-related collateral (e.g. guides, programs, and invitations), fundraising materials (e.g. proposals, grant applications, board presentations, and sponsorship packages), the website, and social media outlets
  • Ensuring that all written content adheres to the High Line’s mission, message, and brand, while keeping narrative voice, graphic standards and visitor engagement at front of mind
  • Implementing and upholding editorial and written style guide standards across departments
  • Managing editorial calendar for all content; work across departments to ensure and anticipate the that needs are met; coordinating progress from concept through writing and production phases
  • Managing multiple requests from different departments and, along with the VP of Communications, deciding how to prioritize external communications
  • Reviewing, copying, and publishing content for the High Line’s Website and High Line blog
  • Working cross-departmentally to solicit and develop new story and content ideas


  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of writing, copyediting, and proofreading; non-profit, publishing, and/or cultural experience preferred
  • Excellent oral communications, writing, editing, and research skills, and ability to frame and draft strong messages
  • A great command of the English language including grammar and style standards
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style proficiency
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, to manage conflicting deadlines, and to coordinate project schedules
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong project-management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, organize time, and identify resources for projects
  • Must be a team player who enjoys working in groups but can function individually to meet goals
  • The ideal candidate will be flexible, resourceful, detail-oriented, and proactive with a strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor
