Position Description

America Needs You – Illinois (ANY-IL) was launched in 2015. The Illinois Fellows Program includes 16 Saturday workshops and several additional transfer support sessions and program events annually. This local site delivers professional development workshops to two classes of 50-75 Fellows (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished volunteer professionals). The Illinois team works with national staff on program design and development, provides holistic support to Fellows and recruits a new cohort of Fellows and Mentor Coaches each year.

As Program Manager (PM), you will work with the Illinois Executive Director (ED) and two Program Coordinators (PCs) to ensure the successful implementation of the ANY-IL program and help manage and cultivate stakeholder relationships, including Fellow and Mentor Coach recruitment and internship partners. The PM’s main responsibility is to manage and execute operational excellence for the ANY-IL Fellows Program, ensuring quality and consistency of the program’s services and deliverables. This includes overseeing the 16 annual workshops and directly supervising the PCs and their Fellow and Mentor Coach case management. The Program Manager helps develop and maintain formal partnerships with colleges, universities, and corporations with the aim of securing recruitment, internship placements, and in-kind support of the program. The PM serves as the liaison with the Associate Board and leads IL Mentor Coach Recruitment. As necessary, the PM assists the ED with fundraising, external partnerships, and special events. The role reports directly to the Illinois Executive Director and works closely with Program Managers at all ANY sites.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Program Coordinators and oversee case management of Fellows and Mentor Coaches, including onboarding, matching, transfer, internship placement, and academic support
  • Oversee the Fellow recruitment and onboarding efforts led by the PCs, including the recruitment, application review, interview, and selection processes
  • Oversee local IL volunteer recruitment, cultivation, selection, and onboarding/training
  • Manage the Illinois Associate Board (AB), support AB initiatives, and serve as a liaison between AB and staff
  • Oversee data management and outcome tracking, including survey distribution and collection and the professional development grants for all Fellows
  • Manage internal systems that ensure delivery of high-quality programming that achieves organizational outcomes
  • Train PCs on Salesforce and promote consistent and effective use of the database
  • Lead internship efforts including developing support strategies, building partnerships with corporations and organizations, communicating opportunities with Fellows and Mentor Coaches, supporting PCs in case management related to progress, and tracking results
  • Assist in the management of strategic partnerships to secure Fellow recruitment, internships and volunteers, as well as connect Fellows to community resources, as needed
  • Tailor workshop curriculum to meet site needs, including
  • Customizing calendar and workshop agendas
  • Coordinating panels and external speakers
  • Planning and executing site specific programming
  • Facilitate at Saturday workshops
  • Represent America Needs You in the higher education and career development space in Illinois and Chicago, including participation in CCAPS, Thrive, and similar organizations
  • Collaborate with the External Affairs team to create alumni support programming and services in Illinois
  • Ensure effective utilization of the Illinois program team budget resources and oversee identification of in-kind support opportunities
  • Assist the External Affairs team in the local marketing of the program to key constituents and ensure the website, social media accounts and collateral materials are current and engaging
  • Oversee management of interns (when applicable)
  • Additional projects and duties as determined by the Illinois Executive Director

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree a plus
  • 2-3 years of managerial experience supervising a team is required
  • Strong background in career development and/or mentoring, and experience teaching or training youth and adults (experience working with college-aged youth preferred)
  • Knowledge of the Illinois educational, civic, and philanthropic landscape
  • Excellent project management skills and comfort balancing multiple priorities and deliverables effectively
  • The ability to inspire teams and mobilize small and large groups to action
  • Results-oriented with a commitment to outcomes-driven performance, proficiency and experience with Salesforce database preferred
  • High level of responsiveness, drive, energy and commitment
  • Outstanding relationship management skills and ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including college students, volunteers, university partners, and corporate supporters/internship providers
  • Excellent public speaking, writing and editing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (strong proficiency in Excel required) and knowledge of web-based and social media platforms
  • Seeks and gives continuous improvement and feedback; strong coaching skills
  • As ANY workshops are held on Saturdays, this position will require flexibility and willingness to work nontraditional work hours

The position will be remote until it is safe to resume in-person operations, with the option of remote work continuing at least through June 2021.
