NJ LEEP is a four-year college access and success program working with 135+ high school students and 30+ college students from underserved neighborhoods in the greater Newark area. We help students perform at high academic levels by building skills through law-related and other educational programs, developing the habits necessary for college success and community leadership, and offering exposure to role models who have achieved professional success. NJ LEEP’s model is challenging and rigorous and 100% of NJ LEEP College Bound Program graduates have gone on to college, including Amherst, Georgetown, Princeton, Rutgers, Wellesley, Wesleyan, and the University of Chicago. NJ LEEP has won national awards for program quality and innovation, and has been recognized at the US Department of Education and The White House.


The College Access Coordinator will report to the College Access Director and will be responsible for teaching summer college preparation classes, leading high school seniors through the College Application Process (CAP), and being a helpful and proactive resource to students about the college application process and expectations that await them in college.



•     Proactively create a warm, welcoming and high-energy culture for students 

•     Work to build relationships of trust, support, and high expectations with student and families

•     Track, input, and maintain data (including, but not limited to: student attendance, college application submission, financial aid and scholarships, and supplement deadlines) into NJ LEEP data-management system

•     Manage classroom and keep students consistently focused and on task during programming hours, Monday – Thursday 4:00 -6:00 pm

•     Guide students through all aspects of the college search and application process

•     Provide support for Saturday Writing Class throughout the CAP process (as needed)

•     Review and offer constructive feedback on written responses to all aspects of applications

•     Assist in creation and instruction of content to infuse college-going culture in grades 9-11

•     Support of Summer CAP including instruction, facilitation of small group editing teams, classroom management, and general administrative and emotional support to students

Administrative Support

•     Track, input, and maintain data (including, but not limited to: student attendance, college application submission, financial aid and scholarships, and supplement deadlines) into NJ LEEP data-management system

•     Identify and analyze trends in data to best support CAP and NJ LEEP Programming

•     Follow up with students regarding their college application process outside of programming hours via phone and email

•     Collect and manage sensitive documents i.e. school transcripts and family financial documents

•     Assist in communication with college admissions officers and local guidance counselors in conjunction with College Access Director  

•     Organize and support college tours and visits for all grade levels

•     Build and maintain an evolving college-going aesthetic in program facilities

•     Maintain and update Blackbaud pages and frequently check and communicate with other college related online tools (i.e. Common Application, Coalition Application, College Greenlight, etc.)

Other Duties

•     Attend and assist in operations, fundraising, and programming events

•     Provide additional support to programming staff, as coordinated by supervisor, on all other duties as assigned


•     BA/BS degree from a four-year college or university

•     Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail

•     Ability to build and maintain strong relationships

•     Relevant experience working with students such as in a college admissions office, counseling students about the college application process or in their transition to college

•     An understanding of the obstacles faced by first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college education

•     Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and expertly prioritize

•     Experience leading and facilitating groups of students; experience teaching preferred

•     An understanding and belief in NJ LEEP’s mission and model

•     Professional and positive attitude with a willingness to contribute to a positive staff dynamic
