Job Description
ActiveSGV seeks a highly motivated Program Associate I to support the organization's projects and outreach to communities of focus in the San Gabriel Valley. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Program Associate I will support ActiveSGV’s outreach efforts for projects, programs, and services to advance the organization's mission. Individuals must be organized and prioritize workload; have experience in organizing and coordinating events; be self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact positively and effectively with colleagues, city staff and elected officials, corporate and philanthropic representatives, and community members; be comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven work environment; be able to work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; be willing to take public and active transit for work business, and be passionate about the organization's focus area.
Required Qualifications:
Project Planning
Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting community outreach programs, community events, and workshops to promote event participation or provide educational information.
Assist in coordinating and hosting information booths at community events such as farmer’s markets, 5k runs/walks, health festivals, wellness fairs, etc.
Assists in developing effective outreach and communication strategies to engage with the community, stakeholders, and potential partners.
Assist in the development of presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Conduct research to identify community needs, interests, and engagement opportunities.
Support the creation of outreach materials, such as flyers, newsletters, and social media content, to effectively communicate with the community.
Community Outreach
Assist in the development and implementation of community outreach and engagement strategies.
Coordinates and participates in community events, meetings, workshops, and presentations
Undertakes speaking engagements and presentations at community meetings, events, workshops, etc.
Community canvassing
Conducts door-to-door outreach
Participates in phone and text banking efforts
Distributes collateral materials at community events/destinations
Other duties as assigned
This position will offer a hybrid of remote, and in-person work from our offices in El Monte, CA, work from home, and in the field. ActiveSGV strives to meet the community where they feel comfortable and conducts outreach in places and spaces convenient for the public. As a result, evening and weekend events and outreach are involved with this position.
Qualifications
At least one year of experience working on grassroots campaigns and/or community events with underserved populations is preferred.
Knowledge of issues, legislation, plans, and programs related to sustainable transportation alternatives, environmental justice, public health and safety, economic development, human rights, sustainable living, green infrastructure, recreation opportunities, nutrition, and physical activity.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate volunteers.
Familiarity and comfort with conducting community outreach and engagement activities.

Strong ties and roots in the San Gabriel Valley region.
Experience with social media engagement/outreach.
Lived experience that enables an understanding of poverty and systems of oppression.
Ability to ride a bicycle or a willingness to learn how to do so.
