The Student Services Specialist provides student support services to ensure all participants have access to student support services. In this role, the Student Services Specialist will provide outreach, recruitment, intake, career counseling and retention services for agency’s job training programs. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities for outreach and enrollment:

  • Develop annual plan for outreach for education and workforce programs

  • Conduct community outreach to build partnerships and recruit qualified program applicants and referrals through various outreach methods such as presentations, tabling community fairs and distributing program materials

  • Conduct weekly information and testing sessions, including administering standardized tests, scoring and assessing applicants for basic program eligibility

  • Process applicants paperwork, entering and tracking data, collecting and verifying documentation and preparing and maintaining student files

  • Enroll qualified students into job training programs at AACA

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of different funding sources and assist applicants in completing application process for financial aid

  • Assess applicants needs for services and connect with resources and/or referrals to address barriers to success (i.e. transportation, housing, child care, public benefits etc.)

  • Development of marketing materials for education and training programs and manage program advertising

  • Ensure client information and outcomes are recorded in AACA’s database

  • Participate in the testing and interviewing of new applicants for program admission

Responsibilities for Retention services:

  • Provide post-job placement services to employers and graduates of AACA’s job training programs in order to promote long-term job retention and career advancement.

  • Lead agency’s retention program. Develop, expand, and implement services that will lead to increased long-term job retention for graduates placed into employment.

  • Develop individual career and retention plans for each client; follow program graduates for 2 years post placement and provide services that help them retain and advance in employment

  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers and develop understanding of employer requirements for career advancement

  • Assist placed graduates with re-employment if needed, including assistance with resume updates, interviewing practice, and job search

  • Act as a resource for supervisors at hiring employers who have questions or concerns about AACA’s graduates who they employ

  • Develop and implement workshops useful for placed graduates, including developing content, arranging speakers, and leading outreach to clients

  • Work with employers to develop mentorships for placed graduates

  • Ensure client information and outcomes are recorded in AACA’s database and track and report retention outcomes compared to goals regularly

  • Assist with job placement of program graduates

  • Participate in workforce team activities, including attendance at program meetings and providing input into program design, recruitment, selection, and program evaluation and improvement

  • Maintain records, documentation, and track clients in database, producing regular reports on services and outcomes


  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Experience providing direct services to immigrant and/or low-income clients required
  • Keen understanding of tools needed for career advancement
  • Knowledge of career ladders in banking, building maintenance occupations a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Commitment to AACA’s mission of helping limited English speaking and economically disadvantaged people gain economic self-sufficiency
  • Availability of transportation to reach clients at their job site
