Children’s Law Center, Inc. is hiring an attorney in its Covington office to represent children adversely impacted by the opioid crisis. This position is part of a three (3) year pilot project funded by the Office of Victims of Crime in collaboration with the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
Children’s Law Center, established in 1989, is a non-profit legal service center protecting the rights of children and youth to help them overcome barriers and transition into adulthood, better advocate for their needs, and successfully contribute to society.
Primary responsibilities include:
Provide extensive, holistic legal representation in family courts in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties to children who are impacted by the opioid crisis in civil and criminal courts, and in administrative matters. Collaborate with project partners, stakeholders, community partners, service providers and the courts to provide extensive client representation and implementation of the terms of the Opioid Crisis Project.
Provide legal referrals to other community resources, including self-help materials, guidance to clients and, consistent with attorney-client confidentiality, their caregivers seeking assistance.
Assist with intake by taking incoming calls or walk-ins, reviewing intakes and client records for legal issues and making appropriate determinations as to case acceptance for legal representation.
Coordinate and lead trainings for stakeholders, community partners and service providers.
Admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an attorney.
Experience in advocacy for children and familiarity with systems that serve children.
Experience in working with children and family impacted by substance abuse.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Proven track record of collaborating with a wide-array of professionals and community members from varying backgrounds.
Completion of the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts Legal Training for D/N/A Cases.
Program Experience coordinating and conducting trainings.
