HEAF is a supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school and career.  HEAF identifies students in middle school and supports them to and through four-year colleges, through a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer educational and youth development programs.

Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer.  Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders an advantage for the upcoming school year.


Program Description:

  • Orientation: June 21st and 22nd
  • Program Dates: July  8th – August 2nd
  • Hours: Tuesday & Thursday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM & Friday, August 2nd, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM  
  • Location: 80 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn New York, 11201


Summary:

This art class will focus on American street art and various urban artists. The class should expose students to a number of different mediums and styles of art through hands on, interactive projects and activities.  The class must culminate in a final project exhibition of student work. Projects can be either group or individual and should allow students to express a message that is important to them. The course instructor should utilize various instruction models to engage students. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential.


Instructor Requirements:

  • B.A. in Fine Arts/Visual Arts or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years art teaching experience in middle school or similar youth environments
  • Experience designing curriculum a plus
  • Strong artistic knowledge and background
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff


Compensation:

$42/hour for instruction

$15/hour for meetings and administrative duties
