Development Gateway (DG) is an international nonprofit organization that creates innovative information management and data visualization technology, implements data-focused programs, and conducts research and evaluation to further sustainable development.
DG is implementing a three-year program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The program - Tobacco Control Data Initiative (TCDI) - will be implemented in up to eight African countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The South Africa TCDI portal can be viewed here. The purpose of the program is to understand the respective countries’ tobacco data needs, identify existing data, confirm gaps in available tobacco data, collect new data to fill those gaps and develop an online resource to enable policy makers to use essential data to inform policy.

This Consultancy is based in Kinshasa, DRC, though the position itself is predominantly remote. Ability to live and work legally in DRC is required.
The Elevator Pitch
The Tobacco Control Stakeholder Engagement & Research Lead, DRC (Consultant) is responsible for managing client relationships as well as conducting secondary research on tobacco control in DRC. In this role, you will manage local partners and conduct stakeholder assessments and workshops. You will also be a member of the data team and will locate and evaluate information, research, and data analysis related to tobacco control in DRC. This position requires someone with excellent relationship building skills, as well as someone with strong research skills who can make value judgements about the source and validity of data. A wide degree of creativity, latitude, and responsibility is expected. A background in tobacco control research is advantageous, but not required.

This consultancy will take place mainly in Kinshasa, with some travel within the DRC. It will require close collaboration with national stakeholders as well as other DG team members located internationally. A stable internet connection is required. Your work schedule is flexible, although we request that your work hours overlap at the very least with 8 AM - 12 PM Washington, DC (USA) time for remote meetings.
The initial term of this full time consultancy will be one year. An option to extend for an additional year is expected upon strong performance. The projected pay range for this position is between $25 and $30 USD/hour.
